Another thing to consider is that Eichel should easily have an extra 10 assists at the minimum looking at the beginning of the season and all the missed opportunities by his linemates. They weren't adjusted to his skill set and I think you're now seeing them finally elevating their game when they play with him. - 50GinosIn07
You may be able to say that about anyone (although I have seen the Eichel plays), so that can't really be considered here, unless in the "overall" play evaluation. |

I agree, but the rule is two connective years of 10+ games or 40 games in nhl. So he is a "rookie".
When looking at the stats of Larkin, I was surpirsed to see his line mates stats, he is a +24 ?(!!!!!) what? Pretty good I would say... - Lilroot9
Larkin or Panarin will win. I don't need an award telling me Eichel was the best player on the team this year, and will be one of the best players in the league in a few years. |

Its more of a personal award and Eichel will be amazing either way, so I agree. |

Panarin makes it fishy... bc of his age.
Cant blame a player for getting to play with good linemates.
Imo it's larkins at the moment. if jack can keep is current play for the rest of the season hell jump domi and give larkin a run |

So just because he played in the KHL he shouldn't be considered a rookie? What about Malkin when he was in the KHL should. He have not won Rookie of the Year then |

No Larkin has 5 less games played and is also a +24
Paranin is my #2 right now |

if he continues this pace, he'll jump both of them and only have panarin to deal with |

Agreed, i think this break only helps him.
Also:
I wish Gostisbehere started the season in the show. Awesome to watch and couldve possibly had his name in the mix too with another 20 GP under his belt

18 - gerbe75pts
My point is, it has to be taken into consideration. Never said he shouldn't win it or should. But you have to take into account his games played as a professional (KHL) and his age, and playing with the best player in the NHL. That adds up, and pads stats. Again, not taking away anything from him. You have to be skilled to put up points like he is. But as far as the Calder goes, you have to take into consideration all of the above. Comparing an 18-19 year old kid vs a 24 year old with 5+ years of "pro" experience. |

They quickly changed the rule to be 25 and under after that season. - houseofcards74
To be eligible for the award, a player cannot have played more than 25 games in any single preceding season nor in six or more games in each of any two preceding seasons in any major professional league. Beginning in 1990-91, to be eligible for this award a player must not have attained his twenty-sixth birthday by September 15th of the season in which he is eligible. The latter fact was perhaps most prominent when in 1979–80, first-year phenom Wayne Gretzky was not eligible to win the Calder Trophy despite scoring 137 points (the previous rookie record at the time being 95), because he had played a full season in the World Hockey Association in 1978-79. The Toronto Maple Leafs lead all teams with nine players who've won the Calder. |
