3.9 on the cap though. - Sabresfan-365
I thought when you retained salary, the retained salary stays on yours as part of your cap hit and the rest goes with the new team as part of their cap hit?
Yandle is showing as $2.625M on both the Arizona cap and the Rangers cap from two different websites I just checked. |

So in Eks thread this was posted. 1996 draft. Is this the worst draft ever?
1 Ottawa Chris Phillips D Injured this year, but still "active"
2 San Jose Andrei ZyuzinD Had a decent career
3 NY Islanders J.P. Dumont R ditto
4 Washington Alexandre Volchkov R
5 Dallas Richard Jackman D
6 Edmonton Boyd Devereaux C Underrated
7 Buffalo Erik Rasmussen C Ditto
8 Boston Johnathan Aitken D
9 Anaheim Ruslan Salei D Solid, if unspectacular for 14 years in the NHL
10 New Jersey Lance Ward D
11 Phoenix Dan Focht D
12 Vancouver Josh Holden C
13 Calgary Derek Morris D Was pretty good for a while. Also played for a long time.
14 St. Louis Marty Reasoner C A good grinder. He and Hecht were traded for Doug Weight, so someone thought he was pretty good.
15 Philadelphia Dainius Zubrus C Still playing. Had some very good seasons.
16 Tampa Bay Mario Larocque D
17 Washington Jaroslav Svejkovsky L
18 Montreal Matt Higgins C
19 Edmonton Matthieu Descoteaux D
20 Florida Marcus Nilson L
21 San Jose Marco Sturm C Very underrated player. Was an all-star if I'm not mistaken.
22 NY Rangers Jeff Brown D
23 Pittsburgh Craig Hillier G
24 Phoenix Daniel Briere C We all know this.
25 Colorado Peter Ratchuk D
26 Detroit Jesse Wallin D - ImThatGuy
No, definitely not the worst. Some very good players in there.

This team has a lot of guys that have sneaky value to a legit contender. The playoffs are a battle of attrition, you need depth, just ask the 05-06 Sabres about their defense. In a world where Paul Gaustad is worth a first: (note: these are late picks, they're not being traded to Edmonton. They're being traded to teams who expect to be in the dance)
Legwand: could probably fetch a 3rd with some retained salary. Who wouldn't want to have a guy who can kill penalties and is sound defensively and add to your depth for cheap?
McGinn: could possibly be worth a 1st if he warms up again and goes to a team who expect to be in the Cup or conference final. He can play anywhere in the lineup and play well.
Weber: honestly could be a 2nd given his salary and play this year when he plays third pairing minutes. Chicago got lucky last year that Keith could play 34 minutes a night. It won't happen again. Teams need defensive depth. If you were the 05-06 Sabres would you trade a 2nd for Weber if you knew you had to rely on Doug Janik and Nathan Paetsch because half your defense got hurt? I would. Even if he was the 7th D. Just knowing he's there ready to go gives me peace of mind.
Chad Johnson: if someone gets hurt or is shaky maybe he's worth a 3rd. Maybe a 2nd if they're really desperate. Especially given his numbers on a bad team. Give him a sound defense and he could be be Cam Talbot in NY last year.
Then you have the RFAs Larsson and Foligno: maybe they're part of a package that get's a second.
It all depends on where teams are injury wise come the deadline. But I think there's more value there than most people think. |

Panarin is out due to his age and KHL experience.
It's Larkin vs Eichel really. Eichel will finish higher in points, Larkin will likely finish higher in +/- and even strength points. Larkin plays with Datsyuk and Zeterberg. Eichel plays with Moulson and Gionta. Eichel will have 5x the highlight reel plays. Who will win? Don't know, but there is no denying Eichel is having far more actual impact given what they are playing with. Just hard to say what the voters will look at. - Kalahad
Why would he be out due to his age? He is 24 and meets the cutoff. And I don't believe the nhl considers the kHL a professional league, since his is always brought up in the rookie conversations by the NHL Network and NBcsports. |

Didn't say he was. Just looked it up. He played 545 games in 9 seasons had 128 points. Was he worthy of the 7th overall? Absolutely not, but he was better than Volchkov who had 0 points in 3 career NHL games and picked 4th. Not very many guys get to play in 545 games.
Actually Jackman had a pretty decent career 77 points in 231 games over 15 years as a defenseman. I don't really remember him. |

The AHL is professional league. Hell, so is the ECHL. I don't think that matters too much.
The award is for rookie of the year in the NHL. Not "professional" rookie of the year. I think there should be some sort of cutoff at like 21 or 22. |

I don't want any of those D. Backes is a maybe... We have to remember that Risto/Eichel/Reinhart are gonna get paid big, along with Kane getting a raise.
Unless we can get rid of Moulson, I wouldn't overpay for ANYBODY - JCSabs06
Am I the only guy that thinks Backes is a bit overrated?
He constantly bombs in the playoffs, and he only averages like 23 goals per season to begin with...
I don't hate him
And maybe he'd be better here since he wouldn't be "the" guy
He doesn't seem all that different to guys like Callahan & Dustin Brown to me
Not that I don't really like those guys as players, but I doubt we could get him at a reasonable price...
Let the Leafs (or whoever) overpay him

The 1st round of that draft sucked
Maybe 4 "good" players & a handful of "ok" ones
Lots of disappointment from those picks |

I hope you're right, but I was a little disappoint in what we got last year for better players. I think our breakdown this year looks more like this.
Legwand: a most a 5th round pick, mostly not moved though. If Mitchell could only get us a 5th than I don't hold out much for Legwand.
McGinn: Best of the bunch will return a 2nd, a late 1st if someone is really desperate.
Weber: Thanks to his better play this year I think he can actually be moved but it think the ceiling is a 3rd for him.
Johnson: Same as Weber.
Larsson and Foligno: If moved, I think either one can bring a 2nd. But I'd rather see them as part of a package bringing in a higher quality player.

I could care less if Eichel gets Rookie of the Year or not
Larkin will prob finish ahead of him even if Panarin wasn't allowed.
If mcdavid finishes like he started, he could get some votes too.
Regardless,
I'm happy with Jack's game so far
Still has a lot of work to do (faceoffs especially)
But I think he's coming along just fine |

Your estimates are prob closer to what we'll actually get
I think McGinn is the only guy we get a 2nd for
Although I'd love to be wrong

A guy that "only averages 23 goals a year" and plays like dustin brown doesnt sound attractive to you? I dont think hes overrated at all. Hes a 6'3 220 pound shutdown leader that plays with a mean streak and usually leads his team in hits.

U conveniently didn't address his AWFUL playoff performances
And what do u think he's gonna sign for?
I like the player ok...
But at 7.5mil for 7years?
Hell no
We've got a Cap to (eventually) think about...
Risto up after next year, then Jack, Sam & Kane the year after
Besides...
Our top6 is looking pretty good IMO
Girgensons-Eichel-(top pick)
Kane-O'Reilly-Reinhart
That puts Ennis on 3rd line & I expect him to bounce back
Plus, we have a few prospects that are top9 quality, maybe top6 |

Ok, so why are Domi and Larkin better then?
Domi was Definitely better through the first few months, but then plateaued out quite a bit.
Thanks.

You really think hes going to get that??. Hes getting 4.5 now and at 31 hes not getting a 7 year deal and certainly not 7.5 mm
Also i wouldn't assume our top pick this year will immediately play top 6 minutes. We may draft a defencemen for all we know |
