He was still learning in Edmonton.

I hope so, career -75 sure seems like a liability to me. His corsi numbers reflect a below average defensive ability. his Corsi this year is similar, sorry i'm just going to have to disagree with you.

Darnell Nurse is -9 halfway through the year on that same terrible team. He too then sucks.

I wish the guy that invented Corsi would bend over and shove that pencil up his ass as deep as he can pointed side up and have a seat

Wasn't Edlers -39 one year?

Derek Engellend who handed the Canucks their ass last year in the playoffs was -16

There have been like five posts in the last hour. What exactly would we be interrupting?

Mtl for

Petry Bealiue Smith Pelly and a first.

I guess it depends on whether you prefer silence or the sound of nails on a chalkboard.

I feel that people use advanced stats as an excuse not to actually watch a game/player.

It's a stupid stat last night Sedin had two bad changes that led directly to a goal . Sedin gets no minus, the people skating on the ice get affected

Yes and Edler was the direct cause of the game winning goal but gets off Scott free because he made it to the bench as the goal is scored.

Darnell nurse is playing his first year of pro-hockey at age 20.
jeff Petry is 28 and a creer long defensive liability... Corsi is a shot differential metric, Edler's is quite good in terms of career but did have a bad year. Petry's is quite bad after 360 games. Engellend is also a liability as he has awful footspeed and gets beat often. I don't often refer to +/- often cause it isn't very good metric, but having a career -75 is telling as is the case with Petry

And yet him and Ferland destroyed Edler Tanev. Damn Corsi.

I missed the night when Tanev turned into Bobby Orr

Petry played 300 of those games on the worst team of the decade

Hahah I'm not saying Tanev has any offensive ability, he's just is a better d-man than Petry when it comes to keeping the puck out.

I have actually seen Petry defend one of his team mates and fight. He also hits a lot harder than Tanev does. He also gets more points, not a lot but a few more.

I think were in agreement that general toughness on the backend is what we need. But think of guys like Hjalmalsson. Not at all physical, but good positional d-man that do their job:defense. I agree we need more physical guys that are willing to mix it up, but we don't need to get rid of Tanev for that. We don't even need to get rid of Edler. Buff would go a long way and Sbisa is a start, as he's got a descent amount of snarl. I like how Biega/pedan have played too. I'm a big fan of having a guy like Boychuk or Buff at the backend, but you need a few stoic solid consisteant defenders too. Ohlund was like this.

-39 actually, nhl.com gives real stats, pleas euse it. he was also +13 last year and a -6 this year playing 30mins on a losing team. If he was as bad as you seem to think, he would easily be a -30 not a -6. Please stop with the Edler bashing. We get it you hate him, we all want him traded but he is much better than you think. He is a true #2 dman, just not capable of carrying a team on his shoulders like Keith or Doughty.

Which is all anyone, including myself, have ever really said about Edler. he's a good 2-3 guy, would be much better to have a true 1 but we don't.

I don't mind making a deal with pitt, I think we have leverage if were trading Hammer, they really need a guy like that. hammer for a first might actually happen with pitt, for example. But yeah Vrbata, trade him to someone dying for scoring. Isles?mtl are good targets.

Edler and Tanev are both decent , nothing spectacular but decent. There is not a huge drop off between Tanev and Petry.

Beaulieu is also an upgrade over Bartowski

DSP is also an up grade over Subban

And the first round pick could also be used to find a top 4 Dman. Shink may never even play again on the Canucks . Etem just took his spot ( maybe)
