The whole situation is so franked and makes the NHL look like a complete clown show.
Wideman deserves the benefit of the doubt in my opinion. He was clearly concussed, and has no prior history of such behavior. Calgary's medical staff should be hung out to dry for letting him back into the game while the NHL should see some heat as their concussion protocol is clearly a joke.
To add fuel to the fire, Henderson finished the game yet had to go to the hospital after the game ended for neck pain/nausea where he was held until 5am today. What. The. (frank) - JFlyers00
I thought so too but he is not using that as his defense. Which makes me think otherwise. Definitely shoudlve been tossed
Wideman's words and the video of the incident don't match up to me.
For me, it looked like Wideman was taking frustration out on the linesman because he just got trucked. - johndewar
If Lindros had trouble remembering what locker room he was currently in, why would you expect Wideman to give a fully detailed story that matches the video?
Aggression is a symptom of having a concussion... Plus from different angles it looks like he tries to avoid Henderson when it was too late.

i just don't get what would cause him to drill the linesman - 2Real
Bryce Salvador would say similar things as well. He couldnt hear out of one ear for a while. Lose vision and depth perception after hits. He very well could've had a head injury and done that, but then...why was he allowed to keep playing and why is that not what his defense is?
wasn't carcillo suspended for the same rule? he punched an official no? he got that suspension reduced to 6 games after appeal - 2Real
I thought that was a weak suspensions, as much as I don't like Carcillo. He didn't punch him, he pushed him in the chest when the ref was twirling him around.

From what I heard, Wideman said he just wasn't paying attention. Did he continue to play the game? If so, he's either gotta admit he was concussed and let the team take the heat, or he's gotta take the punishment that abusing an official deserves.

I forget who said it and I am lazy so im just quoting you. From the video I definitely don't think Lucic meant to punch an official square in the face. Obviously cant put it past him, and I thought it was weird he doesnt react to it...like he didnt even know he did

If you have a link to a different angle, I'd love to see it. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I just can't based on what I've seen so far and the dude's comments.

I'm ready to pin 9/11 on Milan Lucic. I can't stand that guy.
I have no problems believing he intentionally hit an official.

Try to think of any other pro league in NA that would tolerate that kind of contact with an official, whether incidental or not... I can't. No penalty, wtf.

If you watch the full video, he goes to the bench after the hit like nothing even happened. He was obviously still dazed when he sat down.
But yes, he finished the game. Wideman finishing the game along with Henderson raises some serious questions about the NHL's concussion protocol in general.
I agree with your thoughts though. He's either gotta take that suspension or throw his teams medical staff under the bus. Its entirely possible they followed protocol though.
Its rather concerning to me that the linesman finished the game then spent the rest of the night in the hospital.
Can anyone please tell me why Gagner is getting no love whatsoever? I mean yea last nights first goal was his fault, and even tho the puck was fired at him, an NHL player should be able to cradle or direct it in his own zone. Regardless, the guy clearly shows flashes of offensive skill and thats what we are lacking. Give him 10-20 games and see what he can do, were on the bubble anyway and probably wont make noise in the playoffs should we get there. why let him figure it out somewhere else next year if he can figure it out here for a modest cap hit.
and please tell me what Brandon Manning is doing on the second power play unit??? i dont care if he plays on both units in the AHL, this guy is barely a top 6 d man, and hes getting power play time? Id rather have gagner at the point, or read at the point and add another offensive guy out there.
Continuing to play Umberger is absolutely ridiculous and not playing weal because of it is even more dumb. Hakstol seems to have a solid system and is good in the room, but his lineups each night remind me of berube, its not good.
And why Medvedev is a healthy scratch every night ill never understand. yeah maybe on another team, but Brandon Manning is the reason why he isnt playing? I just DONT get it
Laughton is just being wasted up here, hes not being used in any special teams situations and hes playing 8 minutes a night. send the kid down and let him play first line minutes. let him tear apart the AHL for another year, its pointless to have him up here, leave Umberger as the 13th guy and manning as the 7th.

I think Orlando Brown hit the ref who threw the penalty flag into his eye.
