Yeah, being in the top 20 scorers in the entire league, over a stretch of 5 plus years makes a guy an elite player, by any rational person's standards. - Jsaquella
Yeah, puts him in the top 2-3 percentile... I'd say that's kind of elite. |

2 things:
1. A one-way offensive player has to be able to outscore his defensive shortcomings. That's why it worked for a guy like Briere but not Akeson. Gagner is not even close to Briere's level.
2. The Flyers don't have the depth to shelter him with 2-way players unless they hamstring his offensive game by playing him with plugs like VdV/PEB/White. - jmatchett383
I dont think thats true, not about the Briere part, you are 100% about that. But you can easily put him as the pivot on a line with raffl and read. both are known as defensively responsible, and read at one point was a 20 goal scorer. so was raffl last year. would it really hurt to put a creative offensive center like gagner in the middle and make it a third line? i dont think so. were essentially playing two fourth lines right now with the way the lines are.
i feel like this team can have more success but hakstol for some reason sees these guys doing "little" things right, and i honestly have no idea what he is talking about.
3 things for the rest of the year:
sit umberger
dress medvedev
play gagner at 3C
those three things in my opinion, u do that, u get to the playoffs. we came off a 5-0-1 run basically making up 2 points in the standings. lost 3 in a row went down to 7, then won the last game and are now 5 points back. scoring more goals, getting rid of your problem areas (umberger, manning, etc) will only lead to more points. |

One way offensive players who teams have success with, actually score. If he's in the lineup, he will be on the 2nd PP unit. My opinion is that Gagner is not good enough to include him on your top two lines moving forward, nor is he the kind of player I want on my 3rd line, moving forward. It was a low risk move that was worth a shot, but I have no interest in him remaining a Flyer. They should look to trade him at the TDL. - MJL
I really dont think 20 games in a brand new system sandwiched around a stint in the minors is enough time to evaluate a former top 5 pick who is still 26 and has shown some offensive ability. yea the points arent being racked up but neither was it for voracek. but because he has a pedigree people can be patient, and look what happened. gagner DOES NOT, and please dont think im comparing gagner to voracek, he does not have that same pedigree, but he has potential. and why not leave no stone unturned and really see what we have instead of assuming we have nothing?
i mean does it really hurt us this year? ur telling me youd rather have umberger out there?

I don't think the Manning/Medvedev decision is all that bad. Manning is actually playing legitimate #6 style hockey while Medvedev is horribly inconsistent: one day he looks like a legit top-4, the next day he looks like a middle tier AHLer.
However, I'm not opposed to replacing Umberger with Gagner, which is more of an indictment of Umberger than praise for Gagner. That said, I don't think it would change much, as you'd get slightly more offense for slightly worse defense. It likely won't make a major difference. |

Gagner is not a creative center, he's an offensive player who can't produce. Gagner has put up one assist in his last 15 games. Those changes are not going to propel the Flyers into the playoffs. That is grossly overrating Gagner as a player. |
