I would rather draft Matthews and float the Skunk out there. And that is saying something because i think skunk is going to be a phenomenal player. - ImThatGuy
IF they were to win the lottery and get the #1 pick, that would probably be worth more than Reinhart is currently.
That's not a knock against Reinhart, I like him as well. I just think that the "ceiling" for the #1 pick could be seen as higher than what people will deem Reinhart's is now.
It's the nature of the "shiny new toy" argument someone else brought up a few posts back. In this type of case, the unknown tends to have more value than the known, which is kind of silly, IMO.

my guess is it is worth 50% more than reinhart
which is fine
skunk alone does not get you a norris caliber d man
the first pick overall will
I'll take my chances with ror, eichel, skunk and girgens up front with a legit cup winning d pair for the next 10 years
the formula is build with the 3 centers, and top pairing d men
we have 4 quality centers, 1 d man
where does that second stud d man come from if you draft matthews? - homiedclown
Theres no perfect formula. You draft stud players when you are in position to do so. We are likely not drafting Matthews and Arizona is not trading OEL. So its a moot point to me. Not to squash all the fun

correct, sabres have an easier schedule after the break and in theory should be much better

Do we sign Boedker this offseason for around $6M per, which is what I think it would take based on his age, performance, and skills, with Moulson and Kane already taking up residency at LW for $10M combined?

Yeap. Still dont want to be the team that traded away "The next star"
If they get the first overall pick you draft the BPA, you then make it work from there.

nope
IMO second line winger
I go all in for a d man, if one is there, and sign cheaper fast free agent wingers that may need a change of scenery

Other than some time for growth, what is this team really missing before they can contend? I think it looks like another top 6 player and a top line defensemen.
Eichel, RoR, skunk, Kane, these guys are four of our top 6 moving forward.
Ennis, 2016 1st, Girgensons, these guys have potential to be penciled in.
Risto, ?? top pair
Bogo, Pysyk, McCabe 2-4 pairings
Guhle, Borgen, other prospects in the system, UFA's, who cares... 5-7 pairings
I'm not sure if the trade route at this point would ever make this team better. We don't have the chips to play with in a trade for quality, we've spent all of our currency last season. Fill the top 6 hole with our 2016 1st, and then move as many of out later round picks, maybe a few midlevel prospects, and NHL established players like Ennis, Foligno, Larsson to get back in the first round and grab a defensemen that can hopefully have top pairing potential.
That's tempting...
But I think i'd actually say no
If Matthews was eligible for last year's draft he'd have been picked 3rd
And he'd have gone 1st in just about every draft for a number of year
Kid broke PK88 scoring records for the U.S. Developmental team
I'm with Vince in that I'd only trade the pick if I was moving down a slot or 2 and getting back a good young player as well

Slightly reluctant to sign him at that much with Moulson still here. If we bought Moulson out I would do it. He would certainly be an upgrade
Only argument I know for that is wasn't Tropp playing in the CCHA and Fasching in the B1G? We need a college hockey expert in here to tell us the strength of the conferences and let us know if/how much of a difference that does/doesn't make. - Zschalberg
I think the point here is that not all college ppg players are ready for the NHL the next season
IMO, Fasching isn't NHL ready yet
Some time in the AHL will be good for him
And we have no reason to rush him anyways
I expect our forward lines to look something like this next year...
It's Gionta's last year with us, and I'm sure we'd like to move on from Moulson. Maybe if he can start finding the back of the net next year we can keep some salary & move him at the deadline? (Hopefully)
Maybe Fasching gets called up when there's injuries, but Bailey, Baptiste or Rodrigues will prob get a call up first unless he's just killing it down there

2016 1st, Pysyk, Ennis to ANA for Hampus Lindholm and their 2016 1st. Throw in another draft pick if needed to get it done. - SabresPanacea
What's the point of the swap of the 1st rounders? Anaheim is currently only 5 places ahead of us. And are you doing this before or after the lottery results? Just trying to get a feel of this overall....
