I'll put this another way, maximizing the vets the way you want isn't going to improve things, it'll set us back a lot longer. I'm sure JB and TL and FA discussed this back when they were hired. I'm telling you that you would be making the on-ice product much worse and there would be consequences to that, that goes beyond what would happen on the ice. This market is not able to bear the type of overt bottoming out that Edmonton or Buffalo or Toronto is attempting at this point. FA is not Rogers who owns all 4 sports franchises in Toronto and has a fanbase that is 10x the size that the Canucks could have in the Lower Mainland, let alone BC and still would make a profit even if the Air Canada Center was mostly empty (which it won't because their season ticket wait list is thousands of names long). This market over the years has shown that it is the most fickle of all the 7 Canadian teams and only supports it when it is doing good and stays away when it is not. If the team starts becoming unprofitable, there is the risk of the team being sold to an owner that would not be willing to spend to the cap or keep the team here if it could be moved to somewhere better like the Grizzlies were.
- DariusKnight

I would say our play has improved by dropping vets....I've been a fan of this team since it came into existence. I've been through decades of tougher times then this And the franchise has only increased in value. As far as not spending to the cap with new owners...that's crap. There is a floor to the cap we must get too. And with 20 mil coming off the books this year ...we likely won't be anywhere near the cap anyway. This market can handle a couple bad years. No worries there. But it will get rough if this stretches into 5-6 years. Which it sure could if we hold onto the old core too much longer.

You really have nothing to offer the topic. You may think it's funny...but really you just come off looking like an idiot.

we still think you're Sensnucks, but you do generate a lot of responses. Time to choose a new name and player to malign before you win the Shiddy/Scooby award for 2016. Bye Toadboy

The problem isn't getting return or even replacing Edler for this year or next. As you have said, we are near the bottom and the return would be spectacular.
However, In your stated view, in 2-3 years we would not have that steady 31-32 year old vet to help bring the kids along.
If we trade Edler, unless we're getting an equal player at similar cap hit, we are going to be sucking big donkey Richard for a while... a long , long while.
So our kids grow up losing
Our team blows
FA is losing money
Free agents aren't coming
Tanev is overplayed
We get smaller
And slower

But we also get cap space
And poker cards... I mean draft picks

Almost all of the above are sarcastic... except this one
Bullfrog77 will stop talking smack on Edler
....
....
...
And start talking smack about Tanev

Bennings greatest assets are his ability to draft and develop nhl players. Does it not make sense to give him as many picks as possible?

Trade Hamhuis, Vrabata Prust, for picks

Resign Hammer at 4m x 2 or 3 years
Try for lucic 5.5m x 6
Let Weber, Bart go

Resign Baer, Etem, Biega,
See if you get yandle to trade in 2 years

Let the kids fill the open spots.
Aim for the playoffs

Sedin Sutter Sedin
Baer Horvat Lucic
Etem McCann Hansen
Burrows Vey Dorsett
Cracknell Guance Shink as callups in that order

Edler Tanev
Hamhuis Sbisa/Yandle
Peden Biega
Tyk

We have the worst fans in the league. Many of them are in these threads. There are some good ones, but lots of morons come here to give their opinion. They are entitled to their opinion, but more often than not its a stupid opinion.

Etem has not impressed me. I hate how he skates, way too bent over, does not look like a good hockey player. I'd let him walk.

Ok you said trade hammer and you said resign hammer which is it? Trade solid choice As for resign , he's 32 he won't sign a two year deal. He wants 4 like bieksa did. Lucic I highly doubt signs for 5.5. And 6 years? You don't see that as a horrendous mistake? I don't see him playing 6 more years. I wouldn't mind him on the team...I like his (frank) you attitude though. I'd go 7 mil 3 years, since we have the space. And yandle? You want to add another non physical not very good older d man with a fat contract? You're tieing all our cap space up on over there prime players. Sounds like a maple leAf blueprint ....no disrespect intended. But seems at best a lateral move

Trade Hammer, when he gets to free agency resign him.
Yandle is 29, sign him as a weber replacement and trade him in two years.

Oh I gotcha...still that's a ton of money for three 30 year old vets that are slipping. Weber is brutal but he's only like 1 mil brutal. Yandle is like 5.5 for five more years isn't he? So 5.5 for yandle 4 for hamhuis and 6 mil for Edler. 15.5 mil for that bunch....yeah no thanks.
