You guys really need to stop with this Oilers bullpoop, they were really poorly managed, there's a ton more examples of teams picking high that had success than there is teams not being successful.
One example of a poorly managed team does not make it a bad plan!! EVERY team, recent or historically, that's won a cup has done so with top picks....fact. - LeftCoaster

I'm not saying they need top three picks to be successful, it'd sure help, but they need a few more quality top 10 picks....the higher the better but just make good selections. - LeftCoaster
If you draft Mathews Puljujarvi Laine Tkachuk Sergachev Chychrun or Juolevi , you can be pretty sure you will get a very good player. After that the odds drop |

Yoe are right, there are. But do you know what they all have in common? Vets to insulate the young talent. What people like Bullpoop are advocating is trade all the vets for high returns, and ice nothing but young players, just like the Oilers. |

As most of you are aware, I want to trade Edler. But we need a Vet to eat his minutes and can handle the spotlight of scrutiny so that our Youth can develop properly. Right now Edler plays that important roll of having losses blamed on him. How often do we talk about Biegas or Huttons mistakes? rarely because they play 20 or less and Edler plays 25 or more. We notice him more. A successful rebuild needs high end picks and vets to keep them our of the spotlight so they can learn the NHL. |

The last 6 years have had three winners . Two of the teams drafted high and picked up some good pieces in free agency like Hossa who was also part of 2008 Wings.
Chara was another free agent picked up by the Bruins who proved to be one of the best leaders in modern hockey.
Willie Mitchell helped the Kings and now helps the Panthers.
Veteran leadership does not mean it has to be home grown it can be imported.
I think eventually Sutter will be a very good leader here |

I think Hamhuis would be that guy. We could trade him at the deadline and then resign in the summer. He's a local guy and wants to be here for the rest of his career. Edler can be traded for a decent return, and it wouldn't change much moving forward. Trade Tanev to Islanders.

I think that's the exception to the rule I believe that team only had one first round pick on it....I'll have to check. |

Obviously can't trade ALL your veteran players, that's ridiculous! Edler is not all our vets but would bring a good return if they can convince him to waive his NTC. I like Edler, I believe he's the Canucks best dman, but, when his head isn't in it he's just God awful. |

Yes but we need leaders on d and o. You can't just have youth behind the Sedins with our forwards, and then toss some kids to play defence. If we trade Edler we need to replace the fact that he eats the hard minutes and is letting players like Hutton develop. We trade Edler and don't put anything in his place and all of a sudden Hutton and Tanev get top pairing minutes? Disaster. |

But who plays Vet next year in his spot? Tanev?Sbisa?UFA? face it, we need someone to replace him if we trade him, even if it is a down grade. Trade Hammer TDl, Edler offseason, sign a UFA to play Edlers Minutes. that would work for me. |

I agree about eating up the hard minutes. I don't buy that he is a leader and if he is that would explain a lot. The guy is brain dead most nights. I think it was Mr. Chunk that went to a game and said he was dropping F bombs all over the place and screaming at his team mates. |

So go out on the market and get someone. He's not going to win any Norris Trophies but really what does it matter. Go get the best you can get and do it by committee until your younger players are more ready. |

This place is really becoming a sh!t show in here.
Love the way people take their personal views as the "be all to end all" and others that counter are "you know poop, I'll tell you how it's done"
As Arte Johnson used to say...very interesting... |

I did so he was playing very angry and not much talk on the bench and fbombs on the ice. Looked to me like he wasn't having any fun. |

It's pretty bad. One mention of Edler and it turns into 7 pages of 'you're an idiot" or 'you are so stupid' or 'god, you're clueless'. |

Edler sucks. Trade him while he still has value. Anyone who thinks differently doesn't know poop and is an idiot. |
