Everyone doesn't. We do. Ten years at the top and nothing coming up from the farm. We are stalled out. And need to start from the bottom - Bullfrog77
It's a LOOOOOONG way from the bottom back to the top. The reality is with the dollar being where it is and the cap likely not to jump much in the next 2-3 years, falling that far would put the team in jeopardy of becoming unprofitable for FA. As I know first hand, when something becomes even slightly unprofitable, FA isn't above saying (frank) it and getting out and selling which would put our team in the position where we might be like an Ottawa or Nashville or another team like that, that has to adhere to a budget and not be a cap ceiling team.
Like it or not, the team needs to stay competitive for it to survive, and that means not pulling a race to the bottom. |

Fosco doesn't count simply because he was just as attached to Jordan Schroeder. - golfingsince
Another example of why trading for a 1st round draft pick doesn't always mean getting a valuable asset. |

Exactly. Also, that's about where we'd be drafting on picks we receive on our trades. Maybe Benning will do better. |

Oh this is horsepoop. We are the 5th most valuable franchise in the league. If Fernando can't afford us some one else will |

Yes but if you have 4 of them it's pretty easy to move up and get the player you really want now isn't it? |

Those figures will drop. The Leafs have already dropped out of 1st. |

So were gonna be down with Phoenix right? I can't have a rational conversation with logic like this. |

I don't think it's easy at all, although maybe moving your 4th, 20th, and 25th might get you #1? I guess it depends on the needs of the other team.
I know that package wasn't getting you McDavid. |

Nobody said Phoenix. It seems you struggle to have a rational conversation regardless. |

Well if you have a better plan for rebuilding the team then let's hear it? I've laid my plan out for all to criticize. |

What you want, or most of the draftist want, is a not a bad idea, it's just that it's not in line with what the reality is under current ownership.
Trading anyone if the return is good is obviously the smart way to manage your assets, just don't do it all at once, if your team is the poops.
What's clearly obvious is, the Canucks defence is one of the worst in the entire league, one through seven. Something needs to be done! |

Can't we al just get along?
Nobody is here saying Edler is good, Dorsett doesn't play enough, Bartkowski should be on the first unit, Miller shouldn't be traded...
The team needs to have a top 5 pick and then we will be looking good. Lots of pieces are in place, and some pieces need to falloff. Edler, Hamhuis, Weber, Burrows, Miller being the key ones. |

Unless it's Jimmy P or Chip Wilson, there's no one else with the money that could buy the team and keep it in operation without going into massive debt. If FA sells, expect the team to either be a budget team, or have a revolving door of owners who are part of a group of people who buy-in and then sell-off. |

I know, I'm just saying unless it's him or Wilson there's no one that I know of that's BC-based that would have the money (or the ability to get the money) that it would take to run the Canucks as it is now. |

Who says the owner comes from Vancouver ? Galardi bought Dallas we used to be own by a Seattle owner. A profitable sports franchise is attractive to people all over. |

But it wouldn't be under your scenario, this fanbase would not accept the type of bottoming out you envision. No fans equals no seasons tickets equals no merchandise equals loss of profits/franchise value. It's been proven time and again that Vancouver fans are mostly fair weather ones and don't stomach losing (at least losing where the team isn't trying to be competitve). This isn't Toronto, where the GTA has 10x the number of people the Lower Mainland does and can draw fans even though the team hasn't done anything in 40 some odd years. |

It's funny that everyone thinks that in order to rebuild you need a complete teardown. - golfingsince
Is it your first day here? The best way to develop the kids and build their confidence is to tear it down and finish last for a few years. Losing always made me feel great about hockey when I was a kid! |

We can keep every player on this roster and make no moves at all. And this team is still going to bottom out. Or we can make the moves that need to be made to start climbing again. Either way we will be down for Atleast three years. Make that Atleast five if we don't start maximizing our vets. Split it either way...were down. How long do you want to be there ? |

I'll put this another way, maximizing the vets the way you want isn't going to improve things, it'll set us back a lot longer. I'm sure JB and TL and FA discussed this back when they were hired. I'm telling you that you would be making the on-ice product much worse and there would be consequences to that, that goes beyond what would happen on the ice. This market is not able to bear the type of overt bottoming out that Edmonton or Buffalo or Toronto is attempting at this point. FA is not Rogers who owns all 4 sports franchises in Toronto and has a fanbase that is 10x the size that the Canucks could have in the Lower Mainland, let alone BC and still would make a profit even if the Air Canada Center was mostly empty (which it won't because their season ticket wait list is thousands of names long). This market over the years has shown that it is the most fickle of all the 7 Canadian teams and only supports it when it is doing good and stays away when it is not. If the team starts becoming unprofitable, there is the risk of the team being sold to an owner that would not be willing to spend to the cap or keep the team here if it could be moved to somewhere better like the Grizzlies were. |
