(this will be my final Scott comment I promise)
John Scott didn't get voted in because he sucks. John Scott didn't get voted in because he beats people up. John Scott got voted in because he's John Scott. Because he has the personality people like. Because he scores a goal every year and a half and makes a T-shirt of himself scoring that goal and wears it. It took the right kind of scrub for people to rally around. And for that John Scott deserves it. - Buffalo--Sabres
Good post . Face it some people just hate what they do not understand . The beefed about him daily when he was here. He was a breath of fresh air . Gave all of us something to laugh about in tough times with his locker room hijinx. Never took himself too seriously. And looked out for the young ones.
He has set himself up for life with this weekend . People have learned how smart he is , what a family man he is and how well spoken he is . He will end up doing commercials , endorsements and hopefully ends up in some teams organization in some capacity . I hope he comes back to Buffalo. Would be a great color man for wTV or Radio.

This is the result of them partnering with MLB. It supposed to be better. I haven't looked at it yet. I'll probably give it some time before I form a real opinion on it though. |

Detroit is a perfect example. Zetterberg was a 7th rounder and Datsyuk a 6th. Moreover, Datsyuk went undrafted in 1996 and 1997.
Obviously, your chances aren't great, but GMTM is right. Every now and again (or two straight years if your Detroit) you could potentially hit on a great player in those later rounds, so it never hurts to be making those picks. - JetpackJesus
Yet people seem to dismiss the multiple draft picks he's seemingly traded away |

As long as you take Carle and Callahan

We're not interested in overrated prospects that couldn't hack it in the NHL even with some of the best centres in the league. Nor are we interested overrated players that do absolutely nothing that make an obscene amount of money. If one of those contracts come to us Matt Moulson goes the other way. |

I generally thought the old NHL.com was pretty awful, but I don't know if the new format is actually an improvement yet. That being said, one positive thing I have noticed so far is that the content on the website actually seems to work now. I would estimate that ~95% of the old NHL.com's video content would never function unless I used IE to access the site. I've had zero issues so far with that.
The Android App also seems to be significantly improved so far. |

That's not the point.
The point is to get the picks in the first place to have the options to trade or draft. Better to get something than nothing |

You also have to give to get, which many around here like to forget as well.
There's a happy medium with it. It'll be years before we know whether or not they were the right moves. Probably best to stop dwelling on them at this point. |

I sell, unless it brings the whiners out that will only say we are tanking. Then I change to buy, just so I don't have to hear the crying. |

SELLERS,,
HANDS DOWN...
The Sabres are still rebuilding. They still need scoring (Mostly on the wing) and defense. There is no better way to get that then the draft; especially for a young team like ours. We do not need anymore mistake contracts. Tkachuck, Laine, Puljujarvi, Chychrun and Matthews would be huge for the Sabres.
Players to get rid of hopefully by deadline....
Ennis
Moulson
Weber
Johnson
McGinn
Gorges
Legwand
Franson
Foligno |

Let them cry. We will do the same to them. It's called a rebuild. If we are tanking so are the Jackets, Leafs, Oilers etc etc etc... |
|
|
|
Neither. They don't really I've anything of value to sell, and they can't afford to buy. |

Your delusional. Yah those were pretty great late picks but with today's scouts so and and so forth you will never see another hall of Famer drafted in those rounds |

I think that's two separate points, though.
The issue GMTM was talking about is trading away an expiring UFA veteran who is worth no more than a very low round draft pick. On its face, that looks like trade that does nothing but hurt the franchise or signals a tank (assuming the vet isn't being replaced by someone better) because why bother giving up that veteran for nearly nothing? GMTM's response to that point is essentially, "Hey you never know." If the options are: (1) keep a player who may help the team tread water outside the playoffs and lose him as a UFA; or (2) trade that same player for a 6th and finish a handful of points further out of the playoffs, he's going to pick the latter.
The issue you raised is the flipping of draft picks to bring in players and/or prospects that someone else drafted to theoretically improve the team. If you think GMTM has done a poor job of that, you'll be unhappy with those trades and lament the loss of those picks. If you think he's done a good job of it, or think that we don't yet have enough information to properly evaluate the moves, you probably won't be too upset about them right now.

Nothing of value? We have a lot of value to sell.
- A regular 20 goal scorer in Ennis
- A serviceable backup in Johnson
- A serviceable 7th defenseman in Weber
- A good gritty player who can score in McGinn
- A tough veteran in Legwand
- A tough hard noises bottom 6 guy in Foligno
- A PP QB in Franson
- A good shot blocking machine and shutdown type defenseman in Gorges
Tonnes of pieces we can move. |

Buyers...but a list of 9 players to dump....
Not sure those pieces get much other than draft picks, but we can always hope I guess. |

Lol meant sellers lol
can get a lot more than draft picks. Picks are good for us anyway. More ammo to trade for another first this year or top young player like a Fowler. |

I really can't see us being buyers. We certainly aren't going to get a rental player with a contract running out. In fact there is no point to getting a guy unless he has at least a three year deal like Kane did. |

That's not true. Some guys are late bloomers. Also, goaltenders traditionally get taken a bit later as they're a huge crap shoot. |

Goalies are always late bloomers. I'm talking players. Your not finding those guys in 5-7 rounds these days. Not with the scouting we have nowadays. But that's my opinion. |
