I'm not sure sitting down and moving your hands back and forth on a circle is "physical toughness." - jmatchett383

Yeah, unlike those beacons of fitness like Matt Stairs, David Wells, John Kruk, Pete Incaviglia, and Lew Dunlap. |

I mean....for every John Daly there's five Mo Vaughns.
I personally think golf is a sport. I don't feel like wading into this too much, but many of the players are ripped and work out a ton to improve their drives and stuff. |

Why do you say that? There are several roller coasters nationwide that pull upwards of 5Gs (El Toro at Great Adventure, for instance). |

Vertical and lateral G's are different....and you experience 5Gs for an extremely short period of time....and have you actually rode on one of those roller coasters for anything longer than about 2 minutes? |

No, I haven't. I would, and want to. But on El Toro, you pull Gs on the drop as well as on twists, so I'm sure you pull them at several angles both laterally and vertically (well, with angles). So, okay, being an astronaut is a sport. |

Most people who are not NASCAR fans have never seen incar and post race footage from Bristol during 100 degree heat in August. If you don't think it's Phyically demanding to drive in NASCAR. Look for it it's scary what those guys come out of those racecars looking like after 3-4 hours of a race. |

Jeff Gordon would win a race and climb out of his car with his perfect hair without a bead of sweat on his gorgeous southern face.
And I'm sure it's scary as hell to be doing around 180 MPH along with 20 other guys on a closed track for 4 hours...but that's doesn't make it physically demanding more than riding a rocket ship to outer space. So astronauts are athletes. |

so if I speed over to my gym and sit in the steam room for 3-4 hours I'm an athlete?
(this is my jmatchette impression, which is also a sport) |

Funny because the forces on a NASCAR driver are often equated to a shuttle launch. F1 is even more extreme.
Auto racing is my second favorite sport after hockey...and it's certainly not the first time I've had this discussion with someone....but I have no doubt you'd sing a different tune if you tried it |
