I know I am probably going to get vilified for this, but I am having some mixed feelings about their recent success, especially with the timing. I DO enjoy watching them winning some games, but I don't want the GM to make a deal for someone who may help short-term but create another 'cap trap', just because we have a little momentum.
We've gone through this before, and I'd like a change to this mentality. I fear that some success before the trade deadline may perpetuate the problems of the past.
I really want them to escape the 'quicksand of mediocrity'.
Hopefully, Hextall is smarter than that.

If anyone is paying attention to what Hextall says, and what he does, there is no danger of that happening.

My response is a question...what have you heard Hextall say or what has he done that would give any indication that the Flyers will give up any part of the future for current success? I think Hextall recognizes better than anyone in the organization where they are at and the path to success

You can buy it or not buy it, but future cap space and flexibility is as much of an asset gained as a draft pick is.
I think it's a valid argument to say that it's possible to get more value for Hartnell, but the future years on his deal would be a deterrent to contender trading for him. I don't think there is any doubt that Hextall thought that Umberger would be a better player.

Harsty could have been a nice piece to flip last year deadline or this year deadline if we still had him. But overall, I'm been ok w this trade regardless.

I am not going to guess how much it will cost to keep him. All I know is with the Flyers depth issues, I'm not sure how you can let him go. Who replaces him? Also, I want them to build a team. Keeping players that have been around a while help that to happen.

I don't think he'll sustain whatever production he's putting right up now and he needs top 6 minutes to thrive.

Something in the 3 - 4 million dollar range is more amenable if they decide to go longer than 3 years.

He's one year older than Couturier. I think it's too early to say he's not going to continue to improve. Just my opinion though.

100% ...I can think of 7 other forwards I would rather see go....Its makes absolutely no sense to get rid of him unless it's a "hockey trade". then I guess it depends what comes back....

I've been asking my self this if Schenn is finally making his mark of what he'll be. Past couple weeks he's looked almost like a different player. He's hitting his shots more often and just seems his net presence has picked up and that he's been in the right places to get the dirty goals as well. Him and Simmer have been really picking it up.

the answer to your question is 'nothing'. It's just the pessimist in me and the things that have happened in the past that worry me.

It was a horrible trade....we all know why it was made, but the Flyers simply misjudged what Hartnell still had in the tank. They also took on a guy who has done absolutely nothing.

He is a top 6 forward so I dont see the big deal in him "needing top 6 minutes" He is an asset on the PP.

This is a situation where Id hope to use Brock Nelson as a reference....but if they decide to lower the AAV by tacking on a bunch of years I am okay with it

Yeah I personally wasn't all onboard with signing him with his start this season. I was fine with moving him if that were the case but with his play as of late, I want to bring him back.

when Schenn hit's he's in the game offensively as well. I'm hoping he gets more consistent as he matures. I still would not be happy if they traded him. To me that's stepping backwards.

That would be great and then a slam dunk to resign him. I think he can improve the rest of his game still. He had been shuffled around the lineup so much over his career here. It seems they finally found a home for him so I want to see how he can improve with a consistent position and line mates.
