Remember about Brayden Schenn: The guy is barely a calendar year from when he put up 3 goals in a 35 game stretch playing top line minutes.
That scoring pace is practically Umbergian. - johndewar
and this year he is top 4 on the team in goals, assists and points. The past is the past. If he goes into another mega slump, then OK. But maybe he has turned the corner. |

Even when Jake wasn't scoring earlier this year, he was still putting up points. - johndewar
He had 5 points in his first 16 games.
Looks like you caught a bad case of the double standards. |

I admit I just don't think Brayden Schenn is all that special. I certainly don't want to see him get overpaid and regret it 2 years from now. - johndewar
It's all about term with him IMO
Budge on money but not on term. I'd go 3 years max. |

There's no rush, I'd let the season play out before making a decision. He's an RFA, so there's little, if any, risk in waiting - BiggE
I could see it two ways. Either something like Couturier got, maybe a little less. Or I could see a short 3 year deal which to me would say they still are uncertain about the player a little. |

I agree. He is a good player. Not great. If he signs for around $4-4.5mil per than I am ok with it. That is the going rate for players with similar stats. I would also be ok if they traded him. |

Voracek put up 3 goals in 40 games between 2/21/15 and 11/12/15, so I guess he's an overpaid bum, too.
Some of you guys really need to let go of your grudges and just enjoy the points. And remember, assists are points, too. - Feanor
Well said. Some players make their money on playnaking more so than goalscoring. |

Even if he finishes behind Larkin and Panarin in points, he will be given every benefit of the doubt by voters IMO. - johndewar
you might be right.

I hope they start signing players to shorter contracts overall. I'm sick of these 6+ year long deals and being (frank)ed down the road if the player doesn't pan out |

Brayden has been one of our more productive offensive players since his brother getting traded and placed on a line with Couturier.
On this page alone, I'm seeing Gudas getting a free pass for being out right dirty because he's young or whatever. With Brayden we can't just be happy he's found his game, we have to reach back to last season to remind ourselves of his growing pains as a Player. |

Voracek has scored points at a higher rate over his career than Brayden Schenn. Voracek has done it far more consistently than Schenn and it's really not that close.
I'm far more willing to give him the benefit of the doubt than Brayden Schenn.

Well for star players your going to have to pay the long term contracts. They want the security and if you don't you'll just lose them to other teams. You just have to try and not overpay roll players and also have to start filtering in players on ELC. |

Since he'll be a UFA at the end of his new contract, it really doesn't help the Flyers to sign him to 3 years instead of 4 or 5, unless to expect his game to fall off a cliff at age 28 or 29. |

I don't think Brayden Schenn goes off and becomes Patrick Sharp. |

Yea I'm good with that. 3 years at 4.5 orideally or 4 years at 4 per. He's not worthy of a long term deal unless he's willing to take a deal under 3.5 AAV.

I don't know why this is turning into an argument with everyone. Not pointing you out. Brayden has been very inconsistent and at times invisible in his career here.
All I know is it seems they finally found a position and line where he has found consistency. It sure seems like he turned a corner and I am hoping that is the case. He really intrigues me as a player when he is on his game, but I can totally understand how others may have doubts. |

Maybe I do have a blind spot about Brayden Schenn.
Then again, maybe you're experiencing a bit of recency bias.

Which is why Schenn gets paid about half as much money as Voracek.
If Voracek is worth 8 years at $8.25m and I think he is, I'm not going to get antsy about giving BSchenn something like 4 years at $4.1m. |

MacDonald is probably overpaid. But also look at what defenseman are being paid. They all seem to get overpaid. Also MacDonald looked a lot better on a bad Islander team then he probably is.
Also it was a different GM that made that deal. |
