You're on a Sabres blog where the news of the day, the title of the story, and the first 5 paragraphs are about the Oilers and McDavid. |

The kid will be a very good player, a good player indeed.
But lets be honest here, the first time I seen the goal I thought to myself, 'who was on defense, Peewee players' ?
Some of the worst defense I have seen in quite some time on that play. - BuffaloHardHat
They half-assed played the man, both of them, and totally ignored the puck. Great way to guarantee you'll get beat. |

It's a decent little throwback to their history. They were never going to do something drastic like switch their color scheme to red and black when it had nothing to do with their history |

Weber would have laid that boy out!

Weber would've watched from the press box, where he belongs. |

Insert Eichel in that scenario, is your same though. "Meh, bad defense" |

I said in my very first post about this goal that McDavid is going to be very good, very good indeed.
On that particular play, last night, I fault the shoddy defensive play more than I will give McDavid credit.
Why that is so difficult for some to understand really, is not my dilemma.
We are two totally different people made of totally different DNA.
You see the play one way as an Oiler fan, and I see the play another.
I understand why you are on the side of the fence you happen to be on watching that play.
I never faulted you for feeling the way you did, I get it. |

I have a feeling it either won't live up to the bill or it'll be like that playoff game a while back between Washington and Pittsburgh where both Ovechkin and Crosby scored a hat trick
I'm thinking the former |

I defend the Red and Black. At the time it made some sense. New building, new era. You have to think of it from the perspective of decision makers in 1996. At the time many sports teams were rocking more updated looks, particularly expansion teams. Remember 96' was our 26th year, we had no Stanley cups. Were weren't old enough to be vintage like say the Bruins, so instead we looked dated. Only took us 14 more years to come to our senses. |

Exactly nf.
People laugh but, Weber is one of the best dman on the Sabres at 'taking the body', especially at his blue line.
I seriously believe Weber would have laid him out but hey, its my opinion. |

I grew up in the red and black so it always has a place for me, but it should have been an alternate. To leave the blue and gold was a mistake. Not to mention how long it took to go back and we had to suffer through the slug and the terrible 3rd jerseys last year and we're still at a shade of blue that is way too dark. Go back to the royal blue and you got yourself a snazzy sweater |

The timing of the rebuild is often overlooked..luckily it appears we hit it at a decent time. It's easy to blame the oilers but drafting MacK over yak or RNH would have had a huge impact. That said this is a huge year to try and get into the top 5 to draft to get that extra piece that completes to rebuild. |

I'm with you. I mean, in the grand scheme of things it's still a great goal and let's face it - Deslauriers couldn't make that play - but you need to take the body or the puck. They took neither.
Ideally, you get one guy to take one and the other to take the other. |
