I said in my very first post about this goal that McDavid is going to be very good, very good indeed.
On that particular play, last night, I fault the shoddy defensive play more than I will give McDavid credit.
Why that is so difficult for some to understand really, is not my dilemma.
We are two totally different people made of totally different DNA.
You see the play one way as an Oiler fan, and I see the play another.
I understand why you are on the side of the fence you happen to be on watching that play.
I never faulted you for feeling the way you did, I get it. - BuffaloHardHat
Your insinuation that I see it a certain way cause I'm an Oilers fan is no more valid than my contention that you're just sore as a sabres fan cause you missed out on him.
I wouldn't play that card generally speaking and think jack is a great player. But since you're trying to come off as a totally unbiased watcher with no salt in the game like a wings fan or something, while pointing to me as otherwise, I don't really have a choice but to point out the obvious
As far as the condescending tone of "why I feel a certain way", ima say that it's cause I understand his talent. Maybe I could say the same about your misunderstanding of it. Much like your thoughts that pavel datsyuk isn't elite and pominville is better than kopitar.
Do u also think defences routinely play badly against pavel too? Or maybe it's because of his skill that he embarrasses players on the reg?

I'm with you. I mean, in the grand scheme of things it's still a great goal and let's face it - Deslauriers couldn't make that play - but you need to take the body or the puck. They took neither.
Ideally, you get one guy to take one and the other to take the other. - nfph
You see it that way, I see it as one tried to play the body the other the puck, and Mcdavid was able to shield himself and the puck at the same time and squeak through what seemed to be an impassible hole.
If the Mcdavid goal is bad defense then what are the two assists that Jack had on z's goals against the NYR. That must be the worst defense I have seen.

Exactly nf.
People laugh but, Weber is one of the best dman on the Sabres at 'taking the body', especially at his blue line.
I seriously believe Weber would have laid him out but hey, its my opinion. - BuffaloHardHat
Mike weber would've made a difference there??!!
He'd still be attempting the pivot to defensive skating when Connor blew by him
The timing of the rebuild is often overlooked..luckily it appears we hit it at a decent time. It's easy to blame the oilers but drafting MacK over yak or RNH would have had a huge impact. That said this is a huge year to try and get into the top 5 to draft to get that extra piece that completes to rebuild. - yen6d1
This is a good post. If our 3 top 5 picks are Sam, Eichel, and Puljujarvi that's a solid base, especially with them being 2nd or lower picks.

For every highlight, there's a lowlight. I did make sure to point out it was still a great goal.
Can't you just be happy ? He's going to be the best player ever for the Sabres in history maybe he's going to be 1 and 2 for scoring every year
We could have had nothing we're lucky - gerbe75pts
Woah, let's slow that down. Jack is great, but let's not give him that title until he does something. Perrault happened to be a pretty damn good player so let's let Jack just be a great player and maybe one day if he drinks all his milk and eats his celery he can maybe try to earn that mark.

I feel like Hasek was the best while he was here, but Gil played his entire career here and that doesn't mean nothing. Had Hasek stayed here and if he had a better team around him then I think there's no question. Also if one of them had been able to win their cup then it'd go to him as well.
Point being, Jack has some names to catch before he's considered the all-time best.

As did I, make sure to preface my initial thoughts by saying the kid is going to be good, very good indeed.
Hard to believe that some people can not see how bad the defense actually was on that play.
Once again, good play by McDavid but even a worse play by the defensemen involved.
And that's the last thing I will say about the goal today.
