I agree with the trade but a side note:
Matthews broke the USA scoring records and was a force in the WJC imo he could be right next to jack potential. Playing in Europe we dont get to see him as much as college/chl. Not as flashy but just as productive (if not more)

We've become the measuring stick for short term failure and rebuilding unfortunately. (The leafs still own long term and ain't giving up that mantle)

And since we're kinda linked in two consecutive drafts with reinhart/draisaitl and especially jack/Connor, I'm sure the two teams will be talked of at least somewhat in the same breath going forward.

But yeah, end of the day, unless we both ascend in the same time frames, the teams should be fairly irrelevant to each other

Wrong. This is like saying you worked for the chance to get that money and got the money you were guaranteed. The Sabres didn't win anything to get Jack, and we weren't lucky to get him. We did what it took to get him and that meant suffering through the entirety of last year.

So yes, be happy we have Jack, but don't act like this was all free and we're so lucky to have been blessed by getting him. We got him not by being lucky and winning a lottery, we got him though the tank.

I forget who itw as but someone said that Matthews and Eichel are about even with McDavid above them in terms of top prospects.
