The problem with Chara is he's too damn slow, he pinches at bad times creating tons of 2 on 1s, and he panics with the puck in his own end. Hes good in like a 7 foot radius around his net, but hes an adventure almost everywhere else on the ice. There's flashes of great play... but there's just as much, if not more times when he's hanging his partner out to dry.
They should trust some other guys (Krug) with more minutes, and limit Chara's... and ask him to play a little safer defensively rather than pinching so often, because he has no speed to get back. |

That's the basic "observations" with Chara...........
It's not an opinion, but a FACT that he is "horrible" at stick handling. He "panics" when the puck is in his skates.
He has a difficult time stickehanding when the puck is near his feet.
He also sucks at adjusting to OUTSIDE SPEED with his speed and stick.........he use to be able to use his "range" to adjust. He can not anymore.
It's an obvious fact OR simple observation to most.................. |

I think Chara's mistakes get noticed because "good" plays from Chara aren't flashy. Breaking up passes with his insane reach doesn't amaze people, so they just focus on when he gets burned (which isn't as often as people suggest).
I was critical of Chara for a while too, and hate seeing him on the power play. In the end tho, I can't argue with the numbers. Advanced stats show he's still an extremely solid Dman, who just doesn't have a consistent partner back there. Like Ty said, go get him a legit #2. |

just throwing it out there, this Chara is terrible stuff is waaaaaaay overblown. is he older and slower sure? was he even that swift a skater when he was younger? no. he's always been a long stick/reach guy that was a beast in the corners and in front of the net.
i'm not seeing this horrible stick handling, (frank) up prone guy that others do. i think Ty's take, which we're ignoring, is that after him there really isn't anyone of much note. who he plays with has a lot to do with what we are perceiving.
now this all runs counter to me not caring so, i'm done. |

No, the problem is that this "Chara is still good" stuff is waaaayyyy overblown. And the "Chara needs a #2" argument is shallow... and pedantic. Any defender is going to look better with a better partner next to him... it doesn't exactly take a rocket scientist to point that out. But the problem is that Chara needs a guy that can carry his play now... it's no longer the other way around. The problem with Chara being a #1 is that no #2 is going to be able to make up for the deficiencies in Chara's game... unless they are the king of defending 2 on 1s. You could stick Drew Doughty out there with him, and poor Drew is still going to be covering Chara's ass on every shift... and even he wouldn't be able to make up for the amount of 2 on 1's that Chara allows every game.
You guys have your drunko homer glasses on... you can't see Chara for the player that he has become... you just want to pretend that he's still this amazing defender that can do no wrong. It's (frank)ing sad to see all of you Char-bronis trying to find people to place the blame on, when the person to blame sticks out like the 7 foot pylon he is. Why do you feel the need to place the blame on Chara's partner... it's not them that's making all of the terrible plays. |

so much for respecting others opinions. didn't i say he's older and slower? and trade Chara, great. then what do you have?
an AHL defense for the most part. McQuaid, Miller, Miller, Krug, Trotman, Seidenberg (let's really talk about a decline), Morrow. this group is mediocre at best and more often than not (frank)ing sucks.
yippee!! get Chara out of there! that'll help.

I think the Bruins are so tough to watch because the whole organization doesn't have a direction. Let's be honest, why are the wanting to make the playoffs as an 8 seed? Does this team really have what it takes to win the Cup? Shouldn't Sweeney & co. be looking to ship some pieces out of town and retool?
How much longer does this whole regime keep their jobs? The B's need to clean house, some fresh eyes could help this team plus some extra cap space and they could contend in 2 years.
Chara stinks and is the Bruins best defender. Shows you how bad their defense is. |

whoa. I dont know about homer glasses, seems like most people agree with you: he's slower, and not the defender he used to be.
We're just saying his drop off isn't catastrophic...which, seriously, it isn't. Have you looked at any stats at all?

Screw his stats... have you watched him play at all this year?!?!
He could score 50 goals, but if he can't get back to play defense then what good is he? I would argue that he's scoring more BECAUSE OF his decline in play... instead of looking to make a play with the puck he just throws it towards the net... Yes, it's working for him, but you can't just look at his offensive numbers and think he's still a great player.
I'm just so sick of everyone trying to find someone else to blame and giving Chara a free pass... Literally all anyone wants to do is bash Kevan Miller, or Colin Miller, or Zach Trotman... It's a (frank)ing joke. Kevan Miller will get better, Colin Miller will get much better, Trotman will get better... Chara is sinking to the bottom of the ocean with cinderblocks tied to his legs... he's not getting any better... he's getting exponentially worse... but he's 7 feet tall and used to be the best defender so he's our guy!
The team isn't going to get any better with Chara being our #1... we'll only get worse and worse.... so yes, get him out of here and I'll be happy. |

How many times does Chara turn the puck over in his own end? Or at the offensive blue line?
Just watch the game tonight and count how many times he leaves his partner out to dry.... I'll put the over under at 3. |

Seidenberg poops on Chara's defense at this point.... at least he's responsible and knows when to get back and play defense.
I've said it before... if you take Chara off this team, it doesn't make the team better today... but it does make them better for the future. So we might have a rough season and miss the playoffs, but we know Chara isn't going to put them into the cup contender category, so really what is he doing here? He's eating up minutes trying to prove to everyone that he still has it when he clearly doesn't. He's holding younger guys out of the lineup and stunting their growth. I'd rather have Trotman, Morrow, and Colin Miller playing every game and learning from their mistakes. How are these guys supposed to develop and grow while watching every game from the press box... Chara isn't going anywhere but down... I'd rather find out what we have with the younger guys so we can make educated moves in the offseason. |

dude Chara is just doing his job what do you want him to quit? ask to be traded to foster growth?
and i hate to break it to you, Trotman, Miller and Morrow might not be any good. like, ever. they're 23 and 24 years old. time to start clicking. and developing and growing is done in the AHL. |
