RE: Carolina
There was a discussion on NHL Radio a while back, before the 'Canes got hot, that if they moved a key piece or two, and didn't resign some of their 8 UFAs, the might be challenged to hit the CAP floor next year, and a vet on a short term high $ contract (like Bickell @ 1X4) might be attractive to them in a deadline deal.
As of today on General Fanager, CAR is $11.3M over the CAP floor. Probably won't resign Ward (6.3M) & Versteeg ($2.2M). Staal is at $8.25M and a UFA, Skinner is not, but could be traded, he's at $5.725M.
If all 4 of those went away, that's $22.5M gone away and then 11M UNDER the CAP floor, not to mention any of the other UFAs going away.
Not sure what their streak's done to their plans, but they still need to jump 2 teams to get to the 2nd WC spot, and PHIL is 2 points behind them with 4 games in hand, so more like 3 teams between them and the playoffs.
They could be an attractive trade partner for someone. - scottak
I'd be really interested in a Staal trade as would a lot of hawks fans
Would assume, like you said, bickell be interesting for them.
So I'd be really curious as to what the Hawks would have to toss in to get Staal out of CAR @50% while adding bickell into the whole deal. I'd assume it'd be one of Dano or Schmaltz (don't know if Car is as hot on him as cooper/Stevie are) which would be really interesting. Don't know how much actual $$$ carolina would have to pay for the rest of the season but a net gain of 125K for the rest of the season and upgrading from Bickell to Staal ? Barring anyone on the roster or Dano there isn't much I wouldn't give for that.
I absolutely can't see carolina trading Rask sadly. Guy has looked REALLY good this season and is still only 22 years old. I just don't see it happening sadly. (the best player the hawks could get from them for now and for the future imo)

I would like to see the NHL change the rules on this.
In the future, if a drafted player coming out the NCAA chooses not to sign with the team that drafted him, the team that signs him should have to give a draft pick equal to where the player was drafted to the team that originally drafted him.
So, for the Rangers to sign Hayes, they would have to give the Hawks a first round pick in exchange.
I think this way, the team that drafts does not get punished because the player drafted turns out to be a douche bag. - dahawks8819
This would never go ever well... sure the one team gets "what they spent" but then all the other teams in that draft get franked because of it.. Maybe adding a pick at the end of the round the player was picked in?

As much as I hated losing to L.A., some more perspective needs to be given.
Had the Hawks won Game 7, Oduya would have been out with a badly broken foot, and Hajalmarsson would have missed the first two games minimum, with a bad concussion.
I don't think they beat the Rangers without their top shutdown D pairings. - dahawks8819
And you are absolutely right. Had this in the back of my mind before you posted it. Even though the Hawks lost, that ranks as one of the finest playoff series I've ever witnessed. |

Anyone on here familiar with Dallas? I'm headed there tonight and will be seeing the game on Saturday, and am taking any and all recommendations for restaurants, bars, and such! - maria_wyeth
I was in Dallas like 20 years ago. I can't speak to bars and restaurants but a really neat thing to see is The Sixth Floor exhibit. It pertains to President Kennedy's assassination.

Was NHL.tv better last night or did it still suck? - Jason Millen
it has been working fine the last night and today. Tuesday not so good. Getting used to the new site format and layout.
I and my sons have used GameCenter for 4 years. For $20 bucks per month...pretty decent deal. Although with the hawks they have alot of games on NBCSN and NHLN which are gamecenter blackouts.
Go ahead and give it try for the last 10 weeks of the season.

Interesting that on the lineup card the Kane line is listed as the first line, with Toews' line being second. |

Apologies if mentioned before on the blog; maybe I missed it. Anyone catch Bickell's tweet 2 days ago? Hawk's are a class organization and may have given Bicks and his agent a heads up? Anyone with insight to why he'd post?- "#ToBeContinued Are you kidding me" |

It might be time to start declining power plays again. No sense in giving the opponent momentum. |
