If the goal is to get the calls right, all reviews should be done in TO where they have the technical resources to do it properly. The iPads are a joke. - Davewn
Amen Worst call I have seen all season |

Another big game for Phillip Danault IMO. All the Special teams play tonight cost him ice time, but he was a real factor, especially in the 3rd period when Q was only rolling 3 lines and the top 2 lines were looking tired. His power move to the net with under 2 minutes to play was very impressive.
You simply cannot place a value on how important Danault's play has been to the Hawks success since he arrived. Bowman took him #26 overall with the pick from the Brouwer trade, and that is now starting to pay off. Kruger played most of the season as the 3rd line Centre, potting all of a single point. When he comes back, he will be able to go back to his 4th line role, which will really help us. |

College Refs get full sized monitors to review calls, yet the NHL doesn't even give them full sized tablets but minis? SMH, who thought this was a good idea?
Same with the new website and mobile app. Did they even run it by any users? Or just built by a bunch of techies with no idea how the end user will interact with it. |

I would say outsourced to an off-shore company.
What's Hockey, they ask.

I would not judge Boedker by tonights game. I was just told by a source I trust that ever since Arizona began contract talks with him (beginning of January) his play has fallen off. It's being speculated that he's either trying to play himself into a trade or if he just wants out of Arizona. I'm still trying to get further intel on this so I should have more info in the next day or so. Stay tuned. |

Always felt it was just a matter of time before Danault would be a NHL player. He has all the intangibles the Hawks want from a player. |

i was wondering about that....he has not been good for a while...but don't like to hear speculation about a player playing soft over a contract....he still under contract getting paid to play by the coyotes... |

Worked for me on PC and tablet (casted to TV), but video streaming for my phone isn't working for some reason. Radio from the phone app works, go figure. Stream quality from the tablet cast to TV was excellent though. Hope they get the bugs fixed, I loved Gamecenter before the update to "NHL.tv..." |

I can see why the refs make the calls in college hockey as there is no "big brother", ie review infrastructure in place. Good call on their part to at least give their refs a full sized monitor to conduct reviews.
All goals get reviewed in TO anyway- how hard would it be for them to review the 1 challenge (if that) per game that takes place. Makes absolutely no sense to me.

Yes, this exactly.
The goalie interference reviews have become ridiculous. Breathing on a goalie with Dorito-breath is now a goal reversal. |

Love Simmonds but thats a STEEP price to part with
Practically puts the prospect pipeline at ZERO
Danault is already up. TT is already up. Panarin is in the show for good.
After losing Dano and Hartman, your best forward prospect is your pick between McNeil, Baun, Kero, or Hinostroza
and thats U-G-L-Y, you aint got now alibi UGLY. Easily would be the worst forward prospect pool in the league overnight. Not great for a team that needs value to fill out the roster the next 4-5 years - hawkeytalkman
It won't look so bad once we sign Motte and Schmaltz after their college seasons are over. |

Howdy folks! First time poster. Been lurking a couple years. I read every update and get huffy when John doesn't post for a few days.
I don't know if I'm alone here, but that was one of the most entertaining Hawks games I've seen in a while. Probably since the back to back clinics Panarin sat the penguins down for. Phoenix didn't deserve to get to OT, but I'm somehow glad they did.
Hossa played like a mythical beast. It brought a silly grin to my face every time he was on the ice tonight. What POWER. I love it when he has a chip on his shoulder.
Anisimov was great. He is clever in ways I often miss the first time watching the game. Subtle player with great smarts and muscle to spare.
I know it's beaten to death already, but Mashinter is a steel spike through the ankle of this team. I even like him as a player but he just. doesn't. have. IT. How is it that Bickell can still PUNISH teams in the playoffs with his shelled, beaten body yet Mash can't manage more than a couple sloppy, ineffective body checks per game, being a youth freshly called up?
Moose and Desjardins were fantastic tonight. Surprising bursts of speed, as well as smart defensive play from these guys. Desjardins is deceptively good.
Crawford played an excellent game, yet the coyotes got to play that imbecillic howl song on loop for a while there. Ugh. If I was a coyotes fan I would avoid going to games purely because of how desperate it sounds. I know the chelsea dagger isn't to everyone's taste but... cheezus. Anyway, Crawford is the terminator this year. A learning computer.
Danault has BALLS. I hope they don't trade this guy. Balls don't grow on trees. And he can get moving so quickly.
Toews is a gladiator in OT. So much fun to watch. To all of those guys bickering over whether or not he earns his gigantic payday: watch him CRUSH opponents in OT, where time and space are available. Hugely intelligent player. Not as flashy or "skilled" as many, but 10x the competitor.
Shaw had a bad game. Didn't matter much, Hossa and Toews were like 3 players on their own tonight.
Seabrook looks slow and weak. What is going on with that guy? Still a great shot, killer offensive instints but.... he seems off. I've noticed it in most games this year. He isn't that dominant physical presence he once was. Doesn't "lower the boom" like he used to. Lots of mistakes. TVR looked more solid.
Hjalmarsson was impeccable. Quietly impeccable.
AND AS FOR THE COYOTES:
Domingue has great reflexes and good instincts. Weird style but I like it. Crawford got dumped on for years because he played "ugly" but results speak for themselves.
Ekman-Larssen (dont correct my spelling for god's sake) is one hell of a player. Dominant presence on the ice. Probably the only dominant player on the entire team.
Doan is still a bumhole. How sad is it that he's leading their team in goals?
Boedker: what is the big deal with this guy? He made so many bone-headed plays tonight, played so soft... If the Hawks are indeed targeting him, I really hope it's a bargain.
Connaughton and a few other pluggers played a great game. Like I said, this one shouldn't have even been close.
Anyway. Sorry for the bullet points. I won't make it a habit.

Would you do Dano/TT+prospect+1st if it meant unloading Bickell? - Dabearshawks
No I would not. The light is almost visible at the end of the tunnel on Bicks and Dano/TT will both (IMO) become monsters in the next three or so years if not sooner.
The 1st is the real dealbreaker for me though.
With the two 2nds for ole Timo and the standard practice of dumping our firsts at the deadline every year the only way I dump the first / prospect better than a first coming up is if I have the next panarin/ top pairing defensemen about to be on the roster for 3+ years.
The Bickell and Scuderi nightmares will be over soon enough.
Apparently Q said everybody's favorite Cumiskey is about to come back up and ill bet its the skids who heads down for a little cap relief predeadline |

Helluva game tonight as a hockey fan.
I know how much a lot of people love Kruger on here (count me in the huge man crush crowd with JJ) but Danult COULD be a decent replacement if the hawks decide to go that route. Love Kruger, but Danult is stellar and the cap hit is better Could be some cap space that would open up in the summer... Looking too far forward hah
Was not a fan of TT tonight, some good plays, more bad ones though. Q trusts him, and barring some lunacy, he won't be traded this season. Though he showed a fair amount of the things people knock his game about. Confidence or actual strength, I'd like to see better from the guy.
Hawks win! On to try and widen the gap between us and the stars. |

Mex,
You have mentioned that the Jets will get a big haul for Ladd and / or Buff. Do you think they will get a player with as much perceived value as Dano or TT? I'm just curious that if the Hawks wanted to trade one of them, if they'd even be in the running? I personally think no one could come close to offering an asset as valuable, but you seem to be hearing otherwise?
My view is that something like Dano, Bickell (1M retained) and a 3rd (maybe it would have to be the 1st) for Ladd (1M retained) and a depth Dman like Pardy or maybe Ben Chiarot would make a lot of sense.
I keep hearing how all these teams are calling about Dano. If that's the case, his trade value seems like it may never be higher. I'd make a Dano AND Bickell package and see what I could get.

I was not too happy about the Shaw penalty tonight. I thought he was past penalties like that already.
I have to wonder why Q plays Crawford against the weaker teams so often. Is his focus as sharp throughout games like these? How many more games is Darling going to play this year, given there are only two more back to backs on the schedule?
That's the best I've seen the Toews line play this year. Maybe the ASG break was just what they needed. If both scoring lines continue to play at this level, this could be fun. |

A performance like tonight's just solidifies my belief. And adds proof. - powerenforcer
Yeah...ok.
So what does the ignored slash in OT that preceded Toews game winning goal prove?
I'll take a guess...incompetent officials can miss calls for both clubs. |
|
|
|
That's his biggest weakness he's inconsistent. I've seen him play strong before and the real attraction factor (from what i'm told) is that he seems to have a 2nd gear in rhe playoffs. He demonstrated it by scoring back to back OT winners against the Hawks. - Dabearshawks
Don't believe this, the year AZ beat the Hawks he played 16 games other then that he has played 4 playoff games. Not enough of a sample size imo to to label him as having a 2nd gear in the playoffs |
