I despise the Wings myself, but looking at it.. it was a clean hit. Abdelkader clearly left his feet AFTER the initial contact, and used his shoulder (not an elbow which I was looking for).. just a bad break for Barkov and the Cats...

100% agree. I saw it live and the only words I muttered were "keep yer head up, son". Nothing wrong with the hit at all. Barkov was sent home with no further tests ordered.

That was an amazing hit, clean if u ask me. I hope Barkov is okay.

Ha ha. If Abby's case was being tried in Medicine Hat, I'd want Mooseknuckle as my defense lawyer. If its tried in front of the powdered wigs, let me actually resort to precedent directly on point. Back in December, Klas Dahlbeck nailed the Wings' Drew Miller in very similar fashion (hitter - skates on ice/elbows down/body vertical; hittee - head contact mainly from looking down):

The hit broke Miller's jaw; missed a month. No penalty. No suspension. Any other result for Abdelkader would be a gross abuse of justice (and of Dan's momma)! Furthermore, using ancient principles of Trial by Combat, the Panthers offered their champion to fight Abby near game's end. MacKenzie got his ass beat. INNOCENT!

How about take hitting out of the game completely? All anyone ever does nowadays is talk about how many games so and so should get for his borderline hit. Nobody ever talks about what a great hit he laid out to turn the tide of the game. It's just turning into a complete joke of a league.

Half of the blame has to go to Player Safety. Those guys have made a mockery of what is legal and what isn't. I am not saying they have an easy job, but man are they inconsistent. The other half has to do with fans being homers and thinking every hit against their players are deemed dirty. This thread by SOME panther fans is a prime example. A star player gets hit and its anarchy.

It was a really unfortunate hit, but there was nothing wrong here. It's not like he took his fist to his face or something. And lets not act like the NHL has it out for the Panthers. If anything, Bettman would be telling the refs to hand us wins, not try and "keep us down"...

So let's look at the facts:
1) Abdelkeder did not:
-Charge
-Leave his feet in the hit
-make primary contact with the head
-blindside
2) Barkov is not injured and will not likely miss any action

So why are we calling for a suspension?

Fortunately for "Abby".. Thornton was scratched, otherwise justice would have been meted out.
