I don't see how this is a bad hit. Keep your head up. If he didn't have his head down he would have caught that hit straight to the chest and/or been able to brace for it.
I'm so tired of toughness being considered flagrant or suspendable. I get it, it sucks when a top player gets taken out of the game and it stinks when those players sometimes end up with lingering injuries. But maybe.... just maybe, players should learn to not put themselves in vulnerable positions.
Yes, there are many plays that should be considered dangerous such as boarding, hits from behind, etc. But when you are perfectly squared up facing the checker and you take a hit right to the middle of your body? No way, that's on you. If you had your head up it wouldn't be a point of contact even accidentally and this wouldn't even be a talking point. At what point is the player somewhat responsible for their own safety? |

Fortunately for "Abby".. Thornton was scratched, otherwise justice would have been meted out.
I'm certain that they'll meet up next time... - CC PantherFan
Naaaaw...Thornton's penis envy of John Scott reportedly has him focussed on scrubbing his image so he can be next year's lovable unlikely all-star MVP.

I hate when dudes get laid out with clean hits and whatever dippoop is on the ice at the time needs to take a run at the guy who laid the hit. poop happens way too often nowadays. |

You (frank)sticks amaze me sometimes. If the head was the main point of contact barkov would have left the ice on a stretcher. Remove your tampon and watch the video again you big puss. - Feds91Stammer
You clearly don't watch sports you (frank)ing idiot. So your saying all hits to the head result in a person being carried off on a stretcher? Have you had a concussion before? You don't need a (frank)ing stretcher to walk off the ice/field.... (frank)stick.
Go be a tough guy on another blog. Because in reality your prob a short little fat (frank)kk. |

illegal or legal in your opinion? - Codes1087
Legal it's a bang bang play, the only thing I'm arguing is that he hit the head first. It's just my opinion, but Everyone's getting so butt hurt over it. I just said I don't think he should get suspended for it. |

you need to start watching a different sport. It is fans like you that are ruining the game, complaining and whining over every hit. I would love to see you comment on a game played in the 80's or 90's. - Codes1087
Dude stfu and go read my comment again. I just (frank)ing said I don't think he should get suspended. You guys clearly don't know how to read. |

Its hockey.......not figure skating. Barkov needs to keep his head up....ever heard that Panther fans...keep your head up. I'm not even a Detroit guy, but damn, can the boys play. At least its an open ice hit, unlike most of todays players who have to use the boards to deliver a hit. Head up, awareness, and this hit is no big deal. Barkov pivots enjoying his stickhandling and guess what....he got drilled. Bunch of sissies. The skates don't leave the ice until after contact. Once again....its not figure skating. |

No need to be hostile here. If you can't handle a little debating on a hockey forum then you won't be very successful in life my friend lol. You are preaching head shot, that it wasn't clean, yet all you are now wanting is a penalty on the play? You are fighting a pretty hard fight for 2 minutes my friend. |

Think the hit was borderline illegal, but I guarantee that if that same hit was applied to any teams star player their fans would complain about it being dirty. Can't blame panthers fans for being upset. |

He does not have a glass jaw, though. He can take a punch.
Good to see them both take the helmets off for the third round.
This Florida team is good. Might be the team I will cheer for in the playoffs with the Caps. |

Petrovic got beat three times, but he hung in there with the best fighter in the league. Oh and Buffalo got their ass beat in the game. 8 point lead in the division I believe. I hope the final four is Washington, Dallas, Florida, and LA. That would really piss the haters off.

Like Thorton? He had numerous opportunities to challenge Kane, that's his role on this team, which by the way he sucks at. When you have 2 dmen out you can't have Petro fighting and have kampfer and gegnar filling his minutes while he sits in the box |

These are the times when I miss Guds. I've never seen him lose a fight(not to say he hasn't but I haven't seen it) and he's usually pummeling guys. He doesn't back down or shy away from fights either. |

If my memory serves me correctly, you never cared for Thornton. He's ok in my book, but although my prior post gives kudos to Petrovic for standing up, he has to be taught/told that he's not to go try and kick everyone's ass at any given moment.

I feel you man, if larkin got hit like that i would be throwing a fit so im with you, but i really think the hit was clean and the NHL made the right call, it was borderline, so if he had been suspended a game i would not have argued |

Abdelkaders left foot was firmly on the ground during impact, his right skate was completing a stride. Barkov is 6'3" and leaning forward as well as having his head down . He got a glimpse at the last second and reacted the way anyone would react, pulling back. It made the hit seem that much worse. Clean hit, no matter how you cut it. No penalty, no hearing. |
