ESPN is going to be the first in a long line of sports networks that is going to fall victim to the albatross that is the pro sports television contract. They pay an exorbitant amount for the rights to broadcast the NFL, NBA, and Major League Baseball (not to mention other events like Tennis and Golf majors) that they have to promote the living hell out of it. Thus, you have to add the quirky promos, shows, and whatnot in order to justify the money spent in order to get viewers and advertisers. However, it's getting to the point where the revenue brought in isn't justifying the costs and that's where ESPN is falling. Unfortunately, going back to what made the channel great in the first place puts the network in even more of a hole. ESPN is partially to blame for this, but I think the majority of it goes to the fact that sports has become a multi-million dollar enterprise. Not only can you feed a third-world country luxuriously with the kind of money being thrown around, the amount of money that is spent requires changes in order to make it worthwhile.

Ottawa has to push for the playoffs now. They are betting on phaneuf being able to curb the massive drop off when karlsson isnt on the ice. This deal turns them into definite buyers going towards the deadline.

Maybe we get that first round favor back from ottawa for mcginn.

Can't highlight on my tablet, but Sens would be sooooooo all-in if they gave up their top 2 picks for Dion and McGinn....not sure that gets them into the playoffs, but that's about the only return I hope to get for 88 if he is moved.
