Eichel not at practice

- Buffalo--Sabres

My guess would be the slapper he took off of the ankle. Probably a bad bruise, just letting him heal up a bit? I hope!

I have high confidence with Murray;
- Reinhart pick proving to be very good, more room for development but performance projections based on this season seems to be relatively high
- Eichel pick is solid, no brainer.
- there are other draft picks like Guhle that look promising, but time will tell
- ROR / McGinn trade looks very solid
- Kane / Bogo trade is OK...Kane showing promise in another all around player, Bogo the jury is out, but seems to be shifting towards he is a 4/5 D rather than 2/3.
- Lehner Trade - too early to tell, but 5 great games (Save% over .930) 1 stinker

His history with the Sabres to date is far more positive than not.
Moulson signing is the only negative move so far...hopefully he can mitigate that somehow
Yes, still more work to be done...but I like what I have seen so far.
Personally I see him packaging 2nd round Picks with Assets (McGinn, Ennis, etc.) at the trade deadline to acquire higher picks...maybe another 1st rounder at the draft...then make another solid UFA signing

- IonSabres

All very good points. I always expected to draft 4-8 range.
Why i believe people get mad is because they had higher hopes for the team and the injuries/ moulson makes it even worse for those with playoff hopes.

Glass half full: I would be nervous if it was moulson and ennis that had 32 goals and jack/ sam had 7. Yes it sucks, but if a small group is producing im happy it's 90,15,23 & 55

This. The guys who are not producing/staying healthy are guys who are not in the future plans anyway. So your statement is 100% true. The guys who are supposed to produce are producing (not to full potential yet) Our problem is with the vets and depth guys who we can move or replace easily. (easier than the top guys)

how many d men can we depend on being really good top 4 d men for when this rebuild is done?

my guess is risto and who knows what, and risto has reverted in recent weeks

how many guys up from can we depend on being really good top 6 guys, 4?
eichel, skunk, ror and kane

after last night, who knows with the goalies

I want to be optimistic, but to be a really special team, there are several holes still on this lineup

For sure, sucks, but could be MUCH worse.

Imo the ennis story is more disappointing than moulson. Both had good seasons last year (mouls had 41) but ennis was in a place to succeed for the first time in his career and was under performing until the injuries

Yes, and several moves yet to be made in Trades, Draft and Free Agency.
Have faith, the product isn't done yet...but I like the looks of the clay model that has emerged.

Just came back from a short drive and was blown away, sitting at a red light, when a dude who looked as old as my father (76 years) in the car next to me pulled up a vape and started hitting it.

This.

Even with Risto, he looks great sometimes, and it seems he is this teams #1 D. However does he stack up with the Hedman's, Doughty, Keith's of the world where we can win a cup with him playing 27-30 min a night? We just don't know yet.

I liked your earlier "glass half full" assessment...it was spot on.
To add to that, IF Ennis can find his game again...that will be huge in terms of addressing a need that we aren't counting on any longer...it would be huge impact for him to get it together again.
Personally, I think there is a higher chance he re-discovers his game than not...he has shown too much earlier in his career to have just forgotten everything.

to make my case on how we are not ready

look at the sabres from late 70's/early 80's

http://www.hockey-referen...e.com/teams/BUF/1980.html

gilbert, martin, gare
seiling, smith, mckegney
dudley, luce, ramsay

d group
schoenny, van boxmeer
hajt, ramsey
dunn, ruff, korab

goalies
edwards, sauve

that team was built with defined lines, defined d groups and goalie depth
ruff was a tweener that played up front and on the blue line

the current team has been throwing pasta at the wall for 8 years to see if anything sticks, and if something sticks it's for 3 or 4 games, at most

those teams were really fun to watch...they had everything on that team
highly talented
scoring,
defensive acumen,
physicality / spunkness

...and you forgot one of my favorites..Rene Robert
that guy had it all, and really brought Martin and Perraults talents to light...perfect compliment to both, who couldcarry the puck and finish in his own right.

and Schony and King Kong Korab were just fun to watch, especially playing the Bruins and the Flyers

For sure and if ennis can come back it also forces someone with more talent to drop to the 3L which should help larsson/ moulson if mcginn gets dealt

I was too young for the robert years, my first memory of the team was with boxmeer on the other point with schoenny

I know I was pissed when we lost to the north stars in the playoffs, and when ruff took the stick to the eye from billy smith in the semi finals

anything before 1979 is a blur to me, expect the blizzard of 77

They knew what they were signing up for. They'll also be the ones with the front row seat watching the Sabres kick ass in the playoffs soon.

I guess if you can convince yourself of that. How many basement seasons should one be required to pay for to get a good season?

Agreed... If you don't like it, let someone that's been waiting for 10 years to pick up your season tickets. Or just sit there and female dog and wait for the team to be good.. IDK, I'm not gonna tell a female dog what to do.

Beating this drum again huh?

I find it interesting that when you have an issue with the team overall, you like to point to the season ticket holders like it's our fault that the team isn't as good as you'd like them to be.
