Thoughts on Mcginn:
If he nets us a 1st round pick-Trade him
If its anything less than a 1st-Try to sign him to a 3 -4 year deal around 4MM top out at 4.25MM
I think if he is traded he will not come back in the offseason. Mainly because I believe if he is traded to a contender and does well, his value will inflate higher than we will want to pay him.
If he is willing to sign at a reasonable number, I would much rather keep him than trade him for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Hes the type of player you would want that 2nd or 3rd round pick to turn into eventually.
But if teams are willing to give up a 1st then im trading him for sure. - MCGUIZZY
4yrs 16 mil is a lot for someone who'd be a 3rd liner on a good/great team. |

So that about sums up how I feel about him as well.
I like his play and the fact he can play up and down the lineup, which is a valuable piece to have on your team. I think he is a perfect 3rd liner, but can fill in holes due to injuries on your 1st or 2nd...so that makes it acceptable to pay more than your standard 3rd line guy.
That said, if we get a 1st rounder somewhere between 20 - 25 I would be happy with that...then hope that he would come back as a FA, especially if he saw we just landed a couple of 1st rounders. |

Try to not give him a NTC or NMC. If that's what it takes I'm cool keeping him. If we can drop Moulson somehow he gets some of that cap hit and can pay a 4th liner as well.

it is but he is young enough, plays the right way, and has more value with the fact he can fillin on 2nd and 1st lines for a period of time and not absolutely kill your team. |

Im not so sure it will be that much compared to the rest of the league in a season or two. Players are getting more and more money every year. I think you could make an exception for him to be paid slightly higher than your average third line player. Hes versatile enough and young enough to be a valuable piece moving forward. |

He won't net a 1st imo, and that's too much money, I rather just ship him out if he is going to cost more than 3.25 per year(which I anticipate he will cost more) |

Definitely but i really think if he hits FA market, his value will be way too inflated for us. especially if he does very well in the playoffs on a contender. So you take that 1st rounder expecting him to not come back in my opinion. |

Well if hes willing to sign for 4MM we are talking about a 750K difference here. Not that significant. |

3-0 for Kane
I know he isn't scoring as much as we'd like, but I like the way he plays the game... Even if he doesn't have Reinhart-like hockey sense
And I think his scoring rate will improve next year, his shooting % is at an all time low for him. I doubt it continues... |

McGinn should be traded
He'll get us at least a 2nd
Foligno has been playing well, & we've got guys like Bailey, Baptiste, Fasching, Possler, Carrier, Rodrigues and likely whoever we pick this year all coming up in the forward ranks
I like McGinn just fine, but he's not part of the "core" for our future
A 2nd round pick is valuable, and could potentially be used as a piece in getting us another good young defenseman

I think if you can sign him 3yr/12mil contract go for it. Not only is he a player that helps us now and in the next 2-3 years, by the last year of his deal he is moveable if need be. He would also keep some the organizational depth where it needs to be for another year or two.
If he is not interested in that type of deal i would take the best offer on the table, whether its a first or two seconds maybe a second and a B prospect. Dont lose him for nothing.

With the exception of Fasching, Bailey and maybe baptiste, this is hardly a promising group. I think he could be a part of the core if the asking price is not too high. Other wise yes I would trade him like I said |

It sure is, if you establish that precedent 3rd liners are worth 4 million, now it will cost over 2 million extra to create that line. I like McGinn, I liked him before he was traded here, but the value isn't there for that type of money, when you're already overpaying moulsin, Gionta and Gorges. |

We only have 9 spots in our top9
The 4mil it'll cost us for him should be put towards defense
McGinn is ok, but he's not a 20-25 goal scorer either

It's the difference of a half % really. Give or take a goal and he's pretty much what he is.
I have been really impressed with him lately though. He's found his groove playing the 2nd-3rd line role. |
