So Patrick Kaleta has only played in 16 games this season....
but seems to be the POSTER CHILD for EVERY PR thing that the Amerks do. Like EVERY ONE. He is always out doing all this charity work and stuff.
Weird. - JVince11
Pretty sure he's been injured a good portion of the season (surprise, surprise). He's also from Buffalo, and with Rochester being so close, it's "local" for him playing there as well.

So we get to match an offer... that worked out great last time.
I just don't think he'll stick around if he got an offer to play a bigger part of a different team, and he is a talent (not knocking it out of the park this year or anything) I'd just want to get something for it.. specially with our luck he'd pull a Briere and go somewhere in conference and score on us every chance he got - Havic3814
Or we don't match? That's the choice we have. If we think someone is paying too much for him we don't match and get a compensation.
$3,652,659-to-$5,478,986 First and third-round picks
So if we're cool giving him 3.5, and you think someone wants to offer more and he accepts, we get their 1st and 3rd, which is more than you'd get in a trade for him. Long story short, he's an RFA, re-sign him to a bridge deal and let's see where we stand in 2 years. |

Of the 18 skaters (not counting two goaltenders) that teams may dress for a regular-season game, at least 13 must be qualified as "development players." Of those 13, 12 must have played in 260 or fewer professional games (including AHL, NHL, IHL and European elite leagues), and one must have played in 320 or fewer professional games. All calculations for development status are based on regular-season totals as of the start of the season. |

Oh mine says it was out for delivery but now is back at the unit. So I was scared to find out what that meant... hoping it was a mistake and it was delivered like normal. |

Actually after thinking about it im more afraid someone wont. He signs a 2 year deal here is miserable gets that UFA tag and then runs...
But bottom line, all im saying is if you get a decent deal, take it - Havic3814
So trade him then! You want to trade a guy because he might be upset in 2 years on a contract that hasn't even been signed yet.
He signs a 2 year deal. He plays. He either plays well or he doesn't. We either re-sign him to a long-term deal or we don't. We either trade him then or we don't. Unless your argument is that he is the centerpiece of a trade for a needed part there is no reason to trade him at this moment. |

In a world with no cap, and we had no other holes I agree. We have both though. One will land you fair value on the trade market. The other will not.
If we are looking for a third line center, I don't think the drop off is that severe between Larsson or Girgensons. That is more of a complement to Larsson than it is a knock on Z.
I really think you could target Anaheim and one of their D-men in a trade revolving around Z. - ImThatGuy
If it's true that the drop off isn't all that severe, then why not trade Larsson instead?
Him + Fasching?
Obviously a team would have to like both of them quite a bit though |

Based on the new deal. So if the team offered him 4.5 they would pay within the 4.5 bracket.
Example is Vanek with his 7M+ salary that would have gotten us 4 1sts. |

This is not a knock on Lehner, but unless you have a top 5 goalie in the league you just never know what you are going to get day in and day out. Lehner has looked great, but it is still too early to tell just how great he can be. - ImThatGuy
I don't disagree
It's a small sample size. But he's been mostly impressive so far.
And Ullmark has looked like he can play at this level as well.
Our goaltending situation looks much better heading into next year than it did this year |

With that....
I think now we have accused Girgensons of doing just about everything from having a selfish agent to shopping around to saying he was an All-Star so we should shut up and pay him...
Only thing missing is the "He will probably just go play in the KHL or Latvia" line..
Any takers....? Anyone gonna use that one?

Which is the same for any player. My rebuttal is the deal wouldn't likely center around him. 3rd line players don't bring back top 4 guys. |

bury the kid on the 4th line for a few games and who knows what will happen

The changes should have already been made. No team should be able to pick 1st in back to back years. I'm okay with no team being able to pick top 3 after having picked first. - sskkoo1
It would be pretty funny if the Leafs came in last and Oilers won the draft though.

And we can deal with that then. The odds are he doesn't. We're still assuming the worst when nothing has happened. Odds are, nothing will happen other than a normal contract and we can move on. |

ALRIGHT!!!!! DING DING DING!!!
We just used the "he is a selfish player and will rebel against the coach and go do his own thing" line...
We have officially sunk to a new low of assuming random facts about players that we know nothing about! |
