anything is possible with this coach

bury the kid on the 4th line for a few games and who knows what will happen

I think gus has a greater desire than being a 3rd line player in the nhl

- homiedclown

And I think he doesn't. So we're equal.

Which is the same for any player. My rebuttal is the deal wouldn't likely center around him. 3rd line players don't bring back top 4 guys.
- Zschalberg

Not him alone no... package with else or my other thought is get pick(s?) with him and use those to swing and get that piece

Lines as of right now

Deslauriers O'Reilly Mcginn
Kane Reinhart Gionta
Foligno Eichel Moulson
Catenacci Legwand Bailey

Bogosian Pysyk
Gorges Ristolainen
Weber Franson

- chilliard77

Ummmmmmmmmm Reinhart at center tonight?????

I saw this same projected lineup piece on NHL.com too. that was a big of surprise that he is pegged as 2C and Eichel moves down?

With that....

I think now we have accused Girgensons of doing just about everything from having a selfish agent to shopping around to saying he was an All-Star so we should shut up and pay him...

Only thing missing is the "He will probably just go play in the KHL or Latvia" line..

Any takers....? Anyone gonna use that one?

ALRIGHT!!!!! DING DING DING!!!

We just used the "he is a selfish player and will rebel against the coach and go do his own thing" line...

We have officially sunk to a new low of assuming random facts about players that we know nothing about!

- JVince11

all I said was I am sure he has a greater desire than being a 3rd line player in the nhl

kid puts up .5 ppg game last year, and you think he is happy being demoted to the 3rd line?

I don't see where we have a log jam at all?

This is how i see next season (obviously some of these can be switched around):

Kane-ROR-Reinhart
McGinn-Eichel-Ennis
Foligno-Mathews-Gionta
Larsson-Girgs-Deslauriers

*Yeah you read it right, we're winning the daft!!

Moulsen can start the season, but if it's just more of the same we put him on waivers and bury him in the AHL (no way in hell someone claims that salary).
Legwand can be traded, or walk away since he's UFA, no loss there
McCormick, trade or waived.

right there that free's up almost $10M of wasted salary.

I'm fine with our D for now.....and even if I'm not, the pieces you want to trade (expendable forward ranks) simply DO NOT have the worth you think they do, to where the return is going to fill any perceived holes in our D.

- nikel

I can't "bury" someone in the minors anymore
We can send Moulson (for example) down, but all but 900k of his cap hit would still count

- Havic3814

What pick would you get for him? Max is a 2nd. That's not worth it to me. I'd rather get the serviceable guy who can play 60 games a year in a good role for 2 years with an RFA tag that I can wait and see if he progresses and keep him or regresses and trade him.

Now, IF some team says hey we want this this and Girgensons for someone that we really want and they really want him then sure I think about it. Like you said, if the deal is right anyone can be traded. But I don't buy in to the idea some seem to be on that we have a) no cap space b) no room for him or c) that he wants to leave because he needs more.

Girgensons seems to be one of the least selfish players in the NHL. He does everything that others don't want to. He takes the tough plays.. he goes to the hard spots.. he does it. Nothing about him says that he is suddenly going to grow some yellow stripe down his back and say he is "too good" for this.

He has been a captain at every single level of play and could wear an A here very soon. That is not a selfish player.

stop making up any means necessary to fuel or back up your wanted trade of him.

Not really a demotion when he is getting to play against EVERY team's top line and is viewed as our shut down line. He is one of the most important players and plays one of the most important roles on this team.

Yes. Because his 3rd line doesn't have to be him, Hecht, and Grier, it can be better players than that. He can still score and still contribute and still help win. I won't say anything about his character thinking that he feels he has to be a top 6 player. Deslauries is in our top 6. Does that make him a top 6 player? No. We have guys everywhere. He gets minutes. He plays. It's not the Drouin situation. We are all assuming everything with nothing to go on. This is a fabricated argument based on less than anything Ek has ever posted.

Bylsma doesn't seem like he sticks with the 1st line, 2nd line, 3rd line etc. He's going to play the players where and when he sees fit. I'm not too worried. I do like the 3 at center though. Until Girgs comes back, let Sam play C and see how much he's taken from ROR

It's not like Bylsma is walking around saying Girgensons has played poorly this year either. He specifically mentioned how well he's played in that role. He also really likes him with Eichel. It's a tough spot, because he's done so well at both, but where is he more valuable in the overall lineup? I think that's what Bylsma needs to figure out.

Even if he was "buried" on the 3rd line... he has been playing that role all year and has excelled at it. Even if we put a top pick on that 2nd line in the draft this year...

NOTHING shows that he is a selfish player. NOTHING shows that he would demand 4M per year... NOTHING shows that Larsson is even half the player that Girgensons is. Larsson has flipping 20 total points in his NHL career.

Different conversation. For this one I'll say I agree but I've reserved all judgement on things like this until next season.

For Girgensons, we're all overthinking something that will be fine. If he signs, he signs. If not, we'll trade him. It'll get sorted out by guys who make more than I do.
