Most cases, the team makes the goaltender. There are exceptions but you end up paying 8 mil for those.
- Sabresfan-365

this team needs 2 more d men to not have to pay 8 mil per for a goalie and be a really good teaqm

guhle may be one of those guys, may not

I expect him to be on the second line, there are 2 slots open and the coach refuses to plug him in up there

he should be on second line, pk duties and second team pp

he is not being used right on this team

- homiedclown

Your stats thing about Girgensons and why he isn't worth the money is not a fair argument in this case either as you have stated yourself.

Girgensons proved last year as a top 1C that he lead our team in points.
Girgensons as a defensive minded 3rd liner proved his worth there even if not on the scoresheet.

Girgensons has been plugged in with Eichel on the 2nd line for 5 games and scored what.. 3 or 4 points before the lower body flared up again?

Girgensons does his job no matter where you put him. I love the kid and what he brings.

Then that's fine. That amount wouldn't do anything to the cap that it would hurt us
- Zschalberg

that .5 mil will disappear when the cap stays put or goes down.

Jordan Staal looked pretty damn good on Pitts third line.
- Sabresfan-365

That he did. I'm a fan of having a good bottom 6 while you can. We have a player that can play a key role down there and a bigger role than next to Eichel. There are players that are better fits for the second line.

So in 2-3 years when he is making 6MM on the third line putting up 20-30 points, we are ok with that?

True statement.

PLENTY of space.

This team has bigger fish to rid of like Moulson, Franson, and probably Ennis.

McGinn and Foligno have expiring contracts to worry about.

The guy who is an RFA, w/ great dedication, leadership qualities, and 2 way player who is flexible up and down the line up...

not really the guy we should be looking at trading regardless of what his perceived value is in an imaginary trade.

That's my big search if I'm GMTM. Find those D-men. Get the forward in the draft, and get a defenseman somewhere.

Hey.... Look...

RANDOM MADE UP NUMBERS... Did that help your argument that is completely invalid??

What world does he get paid or even demand to be paid 6M per year in 2 or 3 years?

great, you got a man crush on him

I have no problem if he is used like staal was with the pens

he is not here, with this coach

if you can score on the first line, like he did last year, he should be a fixture on the second line as soon as moulson was clearly not a top 6 guy

I blame the coach, unless the gm wanted the team to tank one more year

Add Gionta and Gorges to that list. Both will be gone in 2 years. We have lots of options that we don't have to penny pinch on good players right now.

5+ years from now we can penny pinch and have cap casualties.

You guys have a stack of centers 2 of them with stamkos like potential. You guys should be doing whatever you can to trade for 2 top 4 defensemen. You get them and your in the playoffs next year. If im buffalo im keeping my 1st, rist, bogo, kane, rielly and my 3 young centers. Everyone else and picks in the draft are fair game.
- mauryballstein

Word. So many teams would love to have our center depth, and I include Girgensons in that group. There is no way Larsson makes Girgs expendable, even if Gus ends up on Jack's wing long term.
Larsson is not 3rd C on a good team. Maybe 4C.
Bogo may not be top pair but he's Def top 4 material so I dislike the notion of moving him.

Everyone else can go. I'd be bummed if Pysyk or McNabb get moved, but seeing that gmtm trades for quality over quantity I don't lose sleep worrying we get rid of young talent for picks or other prospects.

Am i miss remembering or did Girgensons say he didn't want to play wing and would rather play center.

I think his point is, there's no guarantee that we pay him 6M to be on the third line. Pittsburgh didn't, they traded him and Carolina payed him. We want to pay him 3.5 on the 3rd line. We'll cross the bridge of 6M when we get there.

None of the bottom-11 teams have a realistic chance of making the playoffs right now

Prolly the same odds as the Sabres winning the lottery.

Lehner in net. Bailey wears 56.

Edit: Ehrhoff cleared. McKenzie says he thinks someone will trade for him and send a contract back.

I very well know what the point is. Currently Jordan Staal is nearly UN-tradable with that contract.

Using Stall as a guide, If Girgensons if a 30-40 point player with a 6MM cap hit we have a big problem.

my guess is 3.5 per

and for 60 games in the 3rd line, not good value if he is putting up 15-20 points a year

again, it's different if he is given a chance to be a fixture on our top 6, but I do not see that happening with this coach

- homiedclown

Bylsma said he like the chemistry that he & Eichel have and he plans on keeping them together for a while

If we can actually pull off the trade u suggest I'm all ears
But idk if that will happen

so in a cap era, you would rather pay girgens 4 mil for 55-60 games on the third line then pay larsson 1.5 mil for 75 games on the 3rd line

assume we won't land a legit top 4 d man capable of playing top minutes as a FA

what asset do you move to get that man?

- homiedclown

I clearly missed some kind of news item: when is Girgensons going to be making $4M per? Certainly not his next deal, that's for sure.

But that's 6 Million. We're not there yet. When we get to the next contract we'll worry about that. But you can get him now for 3.5 million. Then you have him for 2 years and if he demands 6 million down the road we have this same discussion. Only then you'll have a lot more people open to trade him.
