I KNOW I am in the vast minority here, but I didnt think the Gudas hit was all that bad.. Seriously. Could he have let up? Sure, but this is hockey. I hate that people talk about predatory hits. Isnt every hit predatory? Should you go into a hit thinking, Im gonna take it easy on this guy? Or, this guy is already being harassed by another player so Ill just go by him?
He stepped up and caught a smaller player with his head down. He had the puck, he was fighting to maintain possession, and he got blasted. Was it a tough hit? Sure, but I hate hearing people say oh its a 5-1 game.. Play the game or dont. Hit or dont. Idk..
I have a serious feeling that in a decade there wont be any hitting. There wont be any fighting. Thats not a fun league to me. - jak521
I had no problem with the first hit. Gudas got to Foligno and Foligno tried to evade and got upended. I don't think Foligno's attempted evasion of the hit constitutes a reviewable hit by the league. Foligno tried to make a move, failed, got pissed, and went after Gudas.
The second hit reminded me a bit of the hit Niskanen had on Laughton last year. Middle of the ice, head down, BLAM. I'm not even sure Gudas' hit met the definition of a charging minor, let alone a major. He blasted that kid and the refs wanted him off the ice. He definitely caught the kid's head, but he was already hunched over and his head was down. He's probably going to get suspended because of the result, if nothing else. |

There is no way Simmonds backs down from that fight though - funmaster18
If McDonagh is back and Glass insists on fighting SImmonds, then Ryan White can insist on fighting McDonagh. |

Gudas seems to be getting more and more reckless. I didn't like that last hit at all. You're not proving anything there. Totally predatory. I didn't think this guy was a guy to label as a predatory hitter for most of this year but these last few weeks have changed my mind. Most of his hits are garbage and I wouldn't care if he got tuned up. - Just5
I'm all for hard hits, but that hit last night was the definition of "predatory." There were about 5 minutes left, they had a huge lead, and the guy was in a prone position. He could have easily bumped him off the puck (or gone for the puck) but he chose to try to blow him up, and did. Reminded me a lot of Rinaldo charging that defenseman a few years back when they were up 4-0 on Buffalo. Totally unnecessary at that point of the ga,e/ |

If it was Gudas or White that threw the punch, I'd be fine with one of their "tough guys" challenging them, but if anyone should challenge simmonds, it's McDonagh. If he doesn't want to do that, then there shouldn't be a fight.
Laughton got creamed by Niskanen that one time and what did he do? He took care of his own business the next time they met. |

If AV is worried about the game at all and not about who the NHL should suspend then Glass will never be on the ice against Simmonds. |

Didn't see the game. Is there a clip of the Gudas hit? I'd prefer to see the hit before offering my opinion.
I'll opine without seeing it, of course, but I'd prefer to see it first. lol |

The onus falls on the hitter and hittee . Both are equally responsible. The one putting himself in a bad position and the hitter not hitting someone when hes in a bad position with plenty of time to stop. Ie boarding.. If your against the glass facing it and you get slammed into the glass. the onus is on the hitter. IF your coming down the board and right as your going to get hit you turn and face the glass and get plastered the onus is on the hittee. - jmdodgeser4
OK, I thought Gudas had time to target a different part of the body besides the head. What did you think? |

I don't really think it was that dirty of a hit, simply that trying to put a dude in hospital when you're up 5-1 late in a game seems unnecessary. His sole intention (seemingly) on that play was to try to hurt the guy and not care at all about the puck when the game was well out of reach in his team's favor. If you want to hit hard, fine. Hitting with the sole intention of trying to put a dude in the hospital is a different matter. |

When I played my whole intent of hitting somebody was not for me to end up in the hospital. |

No, the hockeybuzz way is to make a statement, and use any/all means necessary to stand your ground and/or change the point of the debate until you find something that sticks. |

Intriguing thought. It'd be Neuvirth if they offered anything unless we got blown away on an offer for Mason (which I doubt). I think they go talk to Anaheim to be honest though. |
