but how much would he actually bring back as a rental? maybe washington offers their first this year (i have absolutely no idea if they can fit him under the cap or if they even have their first)- but thats probably pick 27-30. probably the best you get is a first from a playoff team. combine a slim return for stamkos and the drouin situation and this is a rough year for yzerman.

He'll get more than what the thrashers got for Kovie

pavel datsyuk same hit on Johnny Hockey... Scott Stevens on lindros.... its happens.. keep your head up kid... all in all, the real story is RJ UMBERGER is on FIRE!!!!lol..
- jjackels55

The Stevens hit on Lindros was like 20 years ago dude plus Lindros was skating on his own with the puck, Catenacci was already engaged with another Flyers player fighting for the puck totally different hits. Campbell hit Umberger too very similar to the Stevens Lindros and that was 10 years ago, and today he would've gotten suspended. Haven't seen/don't recall Datsyuk hit, so I can't speak to that.

I've seen the highlights and he looks great. He also has a bad injury already and hasn't been grinding through a long schedule. I'm sure he will be great but I don't think he's Gretzky to everybody else's Lemieux. And if you don't think a clavicle injury is a bad one ask Charles Rodgers how his pro football career was.
- Khmylev

I dislocated my collarbone once about 7 years ago, and my arm still doesn't work right and pops and grinds when I move it. And I have to sleep in a weird position. He snapped his clean in half and needed surgery. It might not affect him that badly today or even maybe 5 years from now, but it will. They're bad injuries.

I see no evidence of that.

Eichel is a heckuva player, but let's try to be objective.

- hawk33

I'm not sure a lot of people realize just how good Mario was. If Gretzky never existed he would be hands down the best player ever. You're always going to have your Bobby Orr was better than Gretzky kooks, but Mario all day without Gretz.

Edit: Hatty.

Mario's career stat line: 915 GP 690 G 1033 A 1723 P

He's 8th all time in points, but the guys ahead of him have at least 400 more GP and most are in the 600-800 more GP. Yzerman played 500 more games yet only scored 2 more goals and 30 more assists.

2nd all time in points per game at 1.883. Gretzky? 1.921 That's how good Lemieux was.

His NHL records:
Shorthanded goals, season (13 in 1988–89)

Goals, period (4, 26 January 1997, shares record)

Only player to score 30+ power-play goals in two different seasons

One of only two players to score 10 or more short-handed goals in two different seasons. The other is Wayne Gretzky.

Most goals scored or assisted on, season (57.3% of team's goals, 1988–89)

Only player with three 8-point games

Only player with three 8-point games in one season

Best goals per game in the regular season and playoffs at .750 (Mike Bossy is second with .747)

Third best goals per game in the regular season at .754 (Bossy is first with .762, Cy Denneny is second with .756)

Power-play points in a single season, 80 in 1987–88 (22 PPG and 58 PPA), also on second and third place with 79 in 1988-1989 & 1995-1996 (31 PPG and 48 PPA)

Power-play assists in a single season, 58 in 1987–88

Only NHL player to ever score 5 goals 5 different ways in one game (even-strength, PP, PK, penalty shot and empty net)[61]

I know you're late to this discussion but my main point on the comparison is people LOVE comparing McDavid to Gretzky but the fact is he will never come close to his numbers ditto Eichel to Lemiux. The point is professionals in the industry have compared Eichel's game to that of Lemiux just as those have compared McDavid's game to Gretzky's

I've seen that too. It's insane. McDavid won't be anywhere near those two guys. Unless the NHL does something to radically increase goal scoring. As far as talent level? Maybe although I doubt it. Those guys were out of this world. They have no comparable in North American pro sports. Michael Jordan maybe, but even then I'd have him a notch below. You can't judge before a guy has even stopped growing.

I see a mix of 90% Red and 10% blue. The blue is the empty seats.

That's how I feel tonight. First game of the year I'm disinterested. Two blow out loses and the worst crowd that is suppose to be a hockey market in the league will do that.

They look disinterested for the first 10:00 of every game, it seems. Sometimes, they're dead before the 10:00 is over. When they can survive it, they've spotted the other team to a lead, generally.

This constant slow start HAS to be on the coach.
