"Front loading" is possible if:
You only decrease the salary by 10% from the previous year.
You don't go below half of the highest salary.

I think I have that correct.

- ImThatGuy

That's the same as I heard, also, but if you start at $15-20M, you cant get to $10M per on a max contract (which I think is 7 or 8 years).

Don't have much of a problem with the hit on Foligno. Didn't look like Gudas stuck his leg out further when Foligno went around him so that one's pretty much a judgement call for the ref. Sometimes it gets called a trip sometimes it doesn't. Nothin really dirty about it just one of those unfortunate plays.

The hit on Catenacci on the other hand was straight up bush league. I keep seeing people say that it's his own fault because he put himself in a vulnerable position. No. He was battling for position while engaged with another player, then Gudas comes in out of nowhere and pops him right in the head. I don't know how you can watch that hit and not think that Gudas is intentionally trying to knock him out. Frankly it's lucky that Catenacci is only looking at a concussion and not a few fractured vertebrae.

I honestly didn't think the hit was illegal, but it was definitely dirty and unnecessary.

That said, glad that the Sabres never had goons like Kaleta, John Scott, Andrew Peters, or Rob Ray.

All teams have had dirty players/goons. Radko Gudas has been throwing quite a few questionable (at best) hits lately, and a lot of Flyers fans are getting sick of it.

The 15-20MM im talking about is in signing bonus money. Kind of like what Buffalo did to ROR. Buffalo gave him $45.5MM of the contract in signing bonus with only 1M actual salary.

ROR got 18MM up front for the first two years.

Barnaby had his share of dirty plays, but he always answered the bell. The definition of the "hate him on the other team, love him on your team" guy.

agreed but need to edit a bit: Scott wasn't a goon, just a pretty big and farily dominant pugilist and andre peters wasn't a goon either...he dreamed of being a fighter and played the part fairly well

Althought I agree with you that Gudas did not stick his leg out any further to make sure he made contact with Foligno... they should be a level of respect for players in this league amongst eachother that when he saw Foligno cut and dish the puck... to avoid knee to knee contact he should have altered his course. He didn't.

Dude thinks he is tough and trying to make a name for himself because he has a college team coach trying to run an NHL franchise and doesn't have the balls to have a back bone. No place for that kind of garbage in this league any more.

You can't have more than (I think) a 15% decrease/increase from year to year, and the lowest year can never be less than 50% of the highest. Taransenko's deal is the model for this.

Wow, just wow. This was going to be exactly my post. Add John Scott. I would say Buffalo is known for goons too, but honestly they are more known for having the dirtiest of the dirty players in the league.

Hopefully Gudas gets suspended. Serious hack writing skills.

What do you consider a "goon?" To me, a goon is a player who plays limited minutes whose sole purpose is to fight/hit who offers little in the skill department. To me, guys like Cote/Rosehill/Ray/Peters/Scott fit the bill. I have no issue with those 3, more the Kaleta/Barnaby types, much like Rinaldo was for the Flyers. So glad he's gone.

I still think Kaleta just got a bad name and then everything he did was blown out of proportion. I think he just played hard and tried to finish every check. Wasn't always the best at perhaps shying away when a player turned shoulders or dished it at the last second.

Worst thing Kaleta did was probably a few slew foots but he never just straight elbowed someone in the head, jumped into his checks, or blindside cheap shotted guys that I can remember.
