I love the total hypocrisy in the Buffalo media
Mark Pysyk needs to be in the lineup because of his underlying numbers
But Rasmus Ristolainen is going to be a "great" defensemen despite having bad underlying numbers.
So do they matter or not? Because if they do where are the criticisms of Ristolainen? And if they dont, then sitting Pysyk really isn't a big deal - sbroads24
If they've been sitting Pysyk to show others for trades, while I understand it, I hate it. |

They probably realized that if you put pysyk in risto's spot his underlying numbers take the same nosedive, but it's too late for back peddling.
Mark Pysyk needs to be in because we don't have 6 d-men better than him. It's really that simple. |

While I agree, I don't think Pysyk has been that good.
My point is, if you are going to use stats to take a stance on one player, then be honest in your assessment about another player.
So we have just decided Ristolainen will be great no matter what so his numbers don't mattrer? |

Matt Moulson hasn't scored in 43 games. But I believe that it is possible he returns to at least last years form. He still has fairly good underlying numbers along with a terribly low shooting percentage. |

I think they've asked pysyk to play more physical and it's causing him to make a few more mistakes (specifically positioning) than we are used to seeing from him.
As for the stats thing, I agree but they are two different conversations. Risto's been put in a position to fail (analytically speaking) from day one (gorges, other teams top lines, team up front not great) so while he should strive to improve for now it's ok that they aren't great.
Pysyk on the other hand has played where you would ideally want him to be and has succeeded against those players, or rather done better than others who have replaced him in the lineup. That's not okay. |

I agree on Risto, but that doesn't stop people from criticizing Gorges who's taking on the tough minutes with him.
I'm not debating how good Risto can be, I think he's going to be excellent, he already is most nights. But I just think it's funny how much they lose sight of context.
Basically acting like Pysyk is Anton Stralman |

Who does everyone think is the biggest bust of a 1st overall pick since 2000?
Some good candidates. Rick DiPietro, Erik Johnson, Nail Yakupov? |

I believe a big part of the reason for the overreaction is guys like Franson and Weber playing instead of him when we know he is the better player. |

Yea this happens....a lot. Im not saying he is but the situation is very similar to Stralman's early in his career. I don't know that he'll ever reach that level but I think if they let him play his style he can be a very good top 4. |

But they are basing there opinion on Pysyk strictly on numbers, which Weber and Franson both have decent underlying numbers as well.
I agree Pysyk should be playing. But if you are going to have a #s based opinion, be consistent |

Letting him play his style is the biggest one for me. While they may have asked him to play more physically just to see if he can, it's like asking Teppo in his day to play physically. Just let the guy play his game that he's best at. |

It's funny...they've asked Pysyk to play more like McCabe when reality is McCabe should be trying to play more like Pysyk. |

Have to go with DiPietro, Johnson at least has had a decent career, and Yak still has time top prove himself.
