Fanside has an article up suggesting a trade for every team in the league. For the Sabres they suggest Franson even swapped for Justin Schultz. Any thoughts on this? I find it kind of interesting, I think I'd pull the trigger.

Later on in the article they did suggest Florida trading Matheson, Gudbranson, and their first to Columbus for Hartnell. I stopped reading at that point.

I doubt he's signing with anyone for 3-5 years
Also, he's young still
Why is it optimal for us to sign him to a 3 year deal instead of 7?

- jdfitz77

To keep the cap issues to a minimum. That is when we need to resign a bunch of people.

I don't want anything to do with Stamkos on the Sabres....timelines don't line up.

We'll be stuck with a $10M salary come time when is production is going down and we'll need to pay our own stars in Eichel, Risto, and Reinhart......gotta look at the big picture during a rebuild

- nikel

Timelines don't add up?
Then we should get rid of O'Reilly bc he's only 1 year younger than Stamkos

The big picture is that we are ready to win next season
A Cup... Not yet
But Playoffs... Absolutely

U get a chance to add a SUPERSTAR player that will be in his PRIME the entire length of the contract...
You do it!

Stamkos is the real deal

1 calendar year with Kane -

1 Sexual assault "investigation"
1 Team issued suspension
1 Injury that kept him out 10 games

I'm really trying to like him......But seriously how can we count on him being here when it matters?

- sbroads24

Can we hold the injury against him at all? Can we hold a complaint against him? The sexual assault if factual is huge, but innocent until proven guilty still applies. If he is acquitted, then it never happened and I never hold injuries against guys. It's a tough league to play in.

I can't even count the amount of times I called in to tell them I was too hungover to come in at 8.... I usually just worked passed 5 that day.
I told my boss I needed a half day because I was going down to Georgia to bone my ex gf...

We have a pretty relaxed atmosphere around here.

U make the Cap work around guys like Stamkos
See; Chicago Blackhawks

Stamkos probably won't sign a 3-5 year deal
If we sign our good young players to bridge contracts, the Cap should have gone up enough that we'll have enough room
Sure,
Difficult choice will have to be made eventually (even without Stamkos), but that's where u need to develop & have guys ready to step in

Yzerman wins GM of the year again if they lose Stamkos for nothing... Book it!

I'm not holding it against him. I'm simply asking if we can count on him being here when we need him to be.

Right or wrong, these two were traded, and them being irresponsible was used as the rationale.

This isn't a huge deal, but it's not like Kane doesn't have a history of this kind of stuff

- sbroads24

Have you ever been late for work? The fact that BS like this is reported is the problem, mountains from molehills.

It was reported because he wasn't at practice....where the media is everyday to give updates on injuries etc...

Yes I have been late for work, I'm not sure my situation rivals a professional athlete though.

I'm not the morals police, I don't care what Kane does outside of the rink, but if you miss practice, you don't play. It's pretty much the same in all sports

Well, I guess there is the silver lining. He's the most responsible irresponsible player
- sbroads24

So you've never called into work then? You have perfect attendance for your entire career? You're the best.

Why not? You let your company and coworkers down by not showing up. Did you get fined or suspended? All people across all professions show up tardy. Holding an injury against him? Thats like getting mad at someone for using a sick day. The sexual assault is a SOP, and nothing is going to come from it.

Its all nit picky, the kid has been fine.

We also don't pay ROR $10M or more which is what someone will be paying Stamkos. You're completely missing my point....if skunk, Risto and Eichel continue to develop,
there's no way they all get paid when that comes due, if we put a $10M salary on the books now.

I think we've learned the hard way, that there's no easy solutions and we can't act like a kid in the candy store buying whatever(whoever) we want. If we want to be a contender for the long term, I just think we have to be smarter and a Stamkos type guy who's been in his prime few a number of years now, is a few years ahead of fitting our model.

Again, I'm flattered that you would compare my situation to a professional athletes, but not sure it is a valid one.

I guess I'm once again being too hard on Kane, I mean it's not like he was traded from his previous team because of off the ice issues or anything

I don't know.

If you read Henderson's blogs and the comments section, those guys want Schultz gone, and fast. I'd almost prefer to stick with Franson, I think he's been serviceable enough.

Playing hockey is just a job. A great paying job, no doubt, but still just a job. I guess the reason he is suspended is because there is a team rule he violated. I'm assuming he knew the rule and I can see holding him responsible in that regard. I don't recall there being so much backlash when Zads did this last year the first time is all I'm saying.

I really don't think that professional athletes get personal days during the season to "call in" if they want to.

People need to stop comparing athletes to our everyday jobs. It is not the same. They are having millions of dollars invested into them.

I don't care that Kane went to the NBA all star game or he was drinking, but he still needs to get to practice.

This. I'll go as far as to just say follow the team rules.

This is like the tracksuit incident. Even if a dress code is dumb, he disregarded it completely and his teammates were pissed off.

If this was a 20 year old Sam Reinhart, I'd be hesitant to criticize

Difference for me is that Zads was a rookie. Kane is a 6 year vet

Fair enough, but he's only 24. I see people say all the time that people in their early-mid 20s aren't kids anymore, but I think most men are pretty immature in their 20s.

Like I said I'm no morals police, I don't care what the guy does. But I think the bigger issue is the reoccurring theme of him putting himself in bad spots

I've heard that too. I guess I'm just kind of hoping that for a small price in Franson we could maybe get a young defensemen who's having troubles a second chance at turning things around.

Let's just put this Kane stuff to an end . I say we hang him in front of the First Niagara Center and use him for an example for the other players . They will think twice before they sleep in. Amazing how upset folks can get . Poop happens. I have really liked his play as of late. But this tardiness will not be tolerated.
