Can he win it retroactively? Say 4 years from now when someone's paying $12 million for a guy that maybe scores 35 goals with another 3 years to go? - Wetbandit1
Does said team/GM have cups to ease the pain? |

That's what I find so funny. Why do people think they can hold professional athlete to a higher standard? To me, it's like the last group of people who should be held to a higher standard. They get paid to do that you did as a child for fun. Enough said. - Mentalorgasm5
But professional athletes are people that many other people pour their hearts and souls into. They shouldn't do that, but they do. If people didn't, than this board in itself would not exist. We are all here commenting and discussing our favorite team because they give us hope and something to look forward to. Whether the players like it or not they're heros to people and consume a good chunk of their lives. They are paid extremely well for their talents and at the same time given the benefit of the doubt for their short comings. What should never be accepted it a player taking millions of dollars from the fans and than telling the fans F.U. I don't care. |

Wow. Working out, practicing and playing are a fraction of their duties for their jobs.
How about all the events they do? How about getting on a plane at 41 times a year just for the regular season, then add playoffs, pre season to it, yes, they're nice planes, but Rob Ray regularly complains about going on the road, how he doesn't like being away from his family that much, RJ doesn't even go on the road anymore because it's too much work. How about putting their health on the line every time they go to work; even just in practice? Yes, they get rewarded handsomely for it, but to say it's not "work" is just ignorant. - Wetbandit1
Please, going on plane is work?
They work out for free, get healthy meals, for free, and get paid to play a game we would all love to play. It's a privileged lifestyle based on, for the most part (not fully, but mostly) winning the genetic lottery. It's not work.

That's their fault. Or parents who let their kids idolize an athlete, that's bad parenting. Kids making millions are the last group of individuals that should be held to a higher standard.

Maybe it is the fans fault. But, when fans pay people millions, they still have a right to hold them to a higher standard. |

Going to be a boring game without Kane. He works hard shift in and shift out. TM will be helping his uncle make the playoffs. |

When you do it 100 times in 7 months it is. 50 times there, 50 times back. That's about 4 plane rides a week. Traveling is tiring. Air travel especially, when you ride in a plane they pressurize to about 8,000 feet of altitude. At 8,000 feet there's significantly less oxygen in the air. Makes you tired. High altitude training is only done at a max of about 7,000 feet. They're incubators for disease. I know someone who got the Zika virus even though she was never anywhere where the disease was, but she did travel on a plane that was. Not to mention just the colds/flu that you get while flying in close quarters with 100 people(for hockey players, the team, coaches, training staff, front office people, broadcasters) with the air just kind of moved around a little bit.
You're absolutely right, it is a privileged lifestyle. But again. It's work. Hard work at that. |

Also, you tend to love the sport less when it becomes your entire life.
I loved playing hockey, but I'm not so sure how much I would be dedicated to it if I was forced to do it 6 days a week, on a strict schedule. That's a job |

This is the second "hanging" comment i've seen on this thread and its a bit disturbing. Not sure if my native buffalonians are so racist they dont even know it or if they know it and are just trying to sneak comments about how they really feel under the radar.

Clearly you've never left your mother's basement, or you're just obstinate. Because anyone that's been on a plane, or just driven for more than a couple of hours straight knows how tiring it is. Why do you think teams road records are generally worse than their home records? Because they're not home, they may have gotten in at 3am the night before after a three hour game and then flying for 3 hours. Sleeping in a hotel, a nice hotel, but still not "your" bed. And then having to play an extremely physical game, yes game, against the best athletes in the world and expect to play all-out night in night out for years and years. The pressure on these guys is immense.
There's a great article "written" by Fred Jackson about the difficulties of moving to Seattle this year, and about all the little things that no one would think of, and how difficult it was to be away from his kids who had no idea why dad was gone.
What about the guy in the AHL making $60,000 a year, riding a bus 10 hours to get to the next city knowing he'll never get to the NHL, does he not work either?

Exactly, but I think that's lost on our friend here.
When they make you certain things things at a certain time and then pay you after, well, that's the definition of a job if I've ever heard one. |

Look, he's went into the job being told he's going to be held to a higher standard. Every team has P.R. people hired to help these players adapt to the higher standard they are going to be held to. This is not a bomb dropped on these players, they know what is expected of them. If they choose to ignore the requirements of the job, they need to held accountable, like everyone else at their jobs is. Any player deserves the benefit of the doubt, but when their actions become chronic they need to be held accountable.

I wonder if Kane would have taken 50 kids out for dinner during Christmas if he didn't think kids idolized him.
Kane has proven he can be a great guy off the ice just as much as he can be a distraction.
The problem is when it effects his play or the rest of the Sabres. |

And some make more than others. Evander Kane is no longer one of the "others". The punishment fits the crime and it will be done and overwith. However, Kane's past makes him deserving of all the criticism he gets. A smart person with his track record would be a lot more vigilant. He's less of a young person who made a mistake and more of a person with a low IQ who is really good at finding trouble. Fortunately, the Sabres are in a position to walk away without much consequence if they need to. |

What the hell??!! Where in gods name do you come off saying Kane has "Low IQ?"
Does he display poor judgment? Maybe. Is he inconsiderate? Perhaps, might be selfish, or even a bad teammate. All those you might have some support to think, but nothing about anything we've seen has indicated he has low intelligence. |
