If I can change the focus from trade talk to the wonderful commissioner of the NHL, I am wondering if anyone else is having a problem with this issue? Last week when he was in Chicago discussing the importance of the history of the NHL (having the draft here in an original 6 city for the league's 100 year), we are faced this weekend with an outdoor game between the Blackhawks and Wild. As part of this weekend's events is an alumni game between Chicago and North Stars/Wild. Now, does anyone see a problem with this? The Wild and North Stars are not the same franchise (Dallas Stars and North Stars would be logical). Why would the league allow such a game, when to us old-time fans it is a slap in the face to lump the NorthStars and Wild as the same franchise?
Carry on with trade talk now. - powerenforcer
It is because the game is about Minnesota history vs. Chicago history, thus the "legends" part of it.
What don't people get about this?
You think anybody in Dallas cares about Hartsburg, Giles, Meloche, Plett, or Ciccarelli?
Teams that move should be required to leave the "history" with the departing city.
Hawerchuk and Steen banners hanging from the rafters in Glendale, AZ?
How stupid!

Color me not offended.
I just hope Dino Cicarelli or Basil McRae bleed a little. Maybe dress Wayne Van Dorp and Shane Churla and have a brawl in the warm ups.... Lack of authenticity. Now that is offensive. |

Agreed, Tred, I am not offended either... and I am an "old time fan"
Funny how people think they can speak for others on subject matters when they write stuff like "slapping all of us old timers in the face" |

Kessel to the hawks... For Kane and Keith.... - southernhawk
We'd have to throw in a first round pick.
I'm watching the Jets/Hurricanes game. I like the Jets, but man are they terrible. |

I think the only one who considers this an "issue" is you.
We are all aware of the history of the Wild and Northstars, but the idea that this is a "slap in the face" of anyone seems silly.
It's for the fans of Minnesota hockey for the most part...and I don't have a problem with any of it. I also have zero interest in the game and will almost certainly not watch a moment of it.
The notion of being offended by this game never once entered my mind, in fact I was closer to being offended by the Hawks performance in the 3 home games prior to the Leafs win. |

The only way anyone bleeds during the game is if someone loses and edge an slids into a post, or has an unexpected nose bleed. |

After a long conversation w a plugged in source today, I would NOT expect a Teravainen trade. (1/2)
(2/2) Obv if cap goes down/stagnates this summer, the Hawks will have to make some tough choices. But I DO NOT expect a trade this season. |

Agreed...heck, I was offended when the NHL moved the Northstars to friggin' Texas and left Minnesota with zero professional hockey...
...it still pisses me off 20+ years later. |

No shocker really, but somebody better be moving because this club needs to fill a hole or two.
If there is a cap shocker this offseason...TT could be moved then since he's an RFA.
Then again...SB has been great at keeping his cards close to the vest, so I wouldn't put anything past him. |

The real insult to injury is that Dino's in the HOF and Steve Larmer is not.
Ciccarelli played in 1232 games.....608/592=1200 pts
Larmer played in 1006 games.....441/571=1012 pts
Especially after Larmer has the 3rd longest games played streak in history at 884. NOT saying Dino should not be in but IF he's in.....how the hell do you keep Larmer out? |

Agreed as to my knowledge they don't win the cup without adding a LW.
Last year they don't win without Vermette, the depth makes the difference as we all know players like Toews and Kane will have off games...that's a given and if you think TT will pick up the slack and do the hard work then youre dreaming....Shaw needs to go back to 3rd line.

Agreed, Rob.
I spent took many weekend trips up to Bloomington to watch the Hawks and N. Stars battle at the old Met Center, and know first hand that the good people of the Twin Cities, while they love the Wild now, still hold the North Stars dear to their hearts (in fact, many polls have been conducted that show the hockey fans in Minny would have rather kept the North Stars name and colors, similar to how the Clevelend Browns did when the original Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens).
And although the game does not matter, I will be watching just for nostalgia enjoyment. |

As was I... Second Balcony, Section B, Row 2, seats 1, 2, 3
The crazy part about that brawl was that there were no refs on the ice to break it up since it took place during warmups. |

I loved the 2nd balcony-- used to go to game with the Beer Nuts when I was younger-- My seats were in the Mezzanine 1st row on the turn-- I remember walking into the seating area just as they were starting to push each other-- crazy-- the coaches came out to break it up-- one of the Hawks was wielding his stick at the Stars if I recall--- |

LEGEND -- I was at that game at the Stadium! - jb3333
Was that the game prior to the face off and refs on the ice, that the legendary pre-game brawl occurred in which the Andy Fraine ushers were totally incapable of doing anything about and the Chicago Police Department had to be called in?
That's what's missing about the renewed so called current rivalry. It has no legs without the bad blood memories and history. |
