I loved the 2nd balcony-- used to go to game with the Beer Nuts when I was younger-- My seats were in the Mezzanine 1st row on the turn-- I remember walking into the seating area just as they were starting to push each other-- crazy-- the coaches came out to break it up-- one of the Hawks was wielding his stick at the Stars if I recall---

The great thing about the old barn was that second balcony seats were cheap, but still a good view of the game, since everything was so tight and compact, no luxury boxes, etc...

Yes walking up all those stars was a chore, but heck I was young and so excited to be at the games, it didn't matter. The only thing that I didn't like was that those stairwells would fill up with smoke from all the smokers during intermission.

Was that the game prior to the face off and refs on the ice, that the legendary pre-game brawl occurred in which the Andy Fraine ushers were totally incapable of doing anything about and the Chicago Police Department had to be called in?

That's what's missing about the renewed so called current rivalry. It has no legs without the bad blood memories and history.

It was smoky in the old Stadium-- and the 2nd balcony was a real party -- The Blackhawk Beer Nuts were in the corner section Q I think

Zawaski:

After a long conversation w a plugged in source today, I would NOT expect a Teravainen trade. (1/2)
(2/2) Obv if cap goes down/stagnates this summer, the Hawks will have to make some tough choices. But I DO NOT expect a trade this season.

- mrpaulish

I'm shocked TT not being traded, I mean he's just terrible, but in all seriousness even someone posted that Q is being forced to play TT, oh please

That would be it. What a different game back then, as a total understatement.

Our seats were on the bend, just to the right of the organ. There will never be another place as good to watch a game as the old Stadium.

Count me as another "old timer" who is not even remotely offended about the old-timers game. Some people just love to get riled up about meaningless stuff. I'm sure the refs will call the game in favor of the Minnesota team. Alumni Game parity!

The real insult to injury is that Dino's in the HOF and Steve Larmer is not.

Ciccarelli played in 1232 games.....608/592=1200 pts
Larmer played in 1006 games.....441/571=1012 pts

Especially after Larmer has the 3rd longest games played streak in history at 884. NOT saying Dino should not be in but IF he's in.....how the hell do you keep Larmer out?

- ILGolfer

THAT is offensive.

Cicarelli conducted himself like an asshat his entire career as well. Larmer was a professional. Who does this league want representing it?

No, I mean it doesn't count against Pittsburgh. As soon as they're traded, their cap hit in Pittsburgh vanishes -- poof.
- darklighter

So Pittsburgh would have $51.4M left for all its remaining players if they traded C&M's $20M cap hits 3/4 of the way through the season. But then they could acquire $80M in rental contracts for the last 1/4 of the season.

...we are faced this weekend with an outdoor game between the Blackhawks and Wild. As part of this weekend's events is an alumni game between Chicago and North Stars/Wild. Now, does anyone see a problem with this? The Wild and North Stars are not the same franchise (Dallas Stars and North Stars would be logical). Why would the league allow such a game, when to us old-time fans it is a slap in the face to lump the NorthStars and Wild as the same franchise?
- powerenforcer

I see no problem with this. I am also an old-time fan and I do not regard this as a slap in the face. The players all played for a Minnesota NHL team, after all. The Wild may not even have enough alumni available to fill in a roster. Your "logic" of a Dallas Stars vs. North Stars alumni game would have both teams competing for the same players. Which team would Modano play for, for instance?

The platforms that hung off the balconies that Foley and Tallon (1st balcony) and the stats guys (2nd balcony) were on would feel like you were standing in a paint mixer it shook so much.

No shocker really, but somebody better be moving because this club needs to fill a hole or two.

If there is a cap shocker this offseason...TT could be moved then since he's an RFA.

Then again...SB has been great at keeping his cards close to the vest, so I wouldn't put anything past him.

- ArlingtonRob

If he's not moved this month, why would they move him because of a cap crunch over the summer - with a $900,000 cap hit?

There were some big brawls there-- What I remember beside the smells (good and bad) and the raucous atmosphere was the intensity of us fans into the game-- the oohs and ahhs that echoed loudly throughout the game-- coupled with the organ shaking the joint-- it was incredible-- even if you were not at the game you could hear the crowds involvement on the radio-- one of a kind place-- how lucky here in Chicago to have grown up going to the Chicago Stadium, Wrigley Field and Comiskey Park--

The Stars/North Stars ARE the same franchise, so there would be no competing for players. Maybe I am looking at it from a different logic.
And I was saying instead of a Wild/NorthStar Alumni team, it should be Stars/NorthStar Alumni team.

But after reading all the comments, I can totally understand this from a FANS POV. You guys slapped me in the face, and sometimes I need that.

And how many times would the players stop prior to face offs, just to watch the brawls in the stands. Unbelievable memories at the old barn.

Priceless.

The whole (frank)ing Stadium would fill up with smoke back in the 60s - by the 3rd period, there would be a definite haze over the lower bowl and ice.

2nd balcony was great - had first row seats for the Bulls between the fre throw line and the time line for two years - cheap ($100 for two tickets for 25 games) - only drew about 5,000-7,000 per game.

So glad I got to see about 10 games there before it closed in 1994.

Also saw a Team USA v. Russia Canada Cup game there .

Even though the UC holds 7k more people the Anthem at the Chicago Stadium was much louder. Feel sorry for everyone who never saw a game at the Chicago Stadium

And the overflowing toilets, your shoes sticking to the cheap linoleum on the way to the can, and the baloney LITERALLY swinging during the anthem, wondering if the whole place was on the verge of collapse.

But you wouldn't trade the memory/experience for anything.

Rundblad 2.0.....

Someone does not want to own a swing and a miss on a high draft pick. And it aint Q.

Good player with potential, but no role for him on this team.
