Lots of exciting talk going on. My thought is if we can add a solid player that helps us now, I would move any prospect. Really how many of our prospects have helped us? There was lots of love for guys like Beach, Pirri, Hayes, etc. Just no sure thing with a prospect compared to a legitimate NHL player. I say we make any move we can while our window is still open! |

Yup about ten seast from the center of the net in section M.
I learned from the best screamers there.
and as far as smoke, the older guys my Father entrusted me to were cigar smokers INSIDE as well as in the curve underneath.
One time around Christmas Murray Balfour (the original Million Dollar baby line with Billy Hay & Bobby Hull) was injured so he came down from the press box to smoke his cigar and he was telling the Sciola brother (my "guardians") how much he paid for the sweater he had one...and they told him the saw the same on at Zayre's for 5 bucks...
I was pretty lucky because they knew Emile Patrick King Clancy even met that crazy Harold Ballard because there was no secret / safe passageways to get to the press box...like all the arenas parks have now. - wiz1901
It always seemed like there was lots of activity in that press box-- whenever something happened in the game you could actually see the press / management typewriters working in the press box --and of course the Blackhawks Standbys banner-- Also I recall the organ loft being the place where scratched players would watch the game-- man that organ looked so cool in gold and the red piping-- and the loft in gold leaf-- just another era--

Guys used to climb up onto the roof trusses from the sides of the 2nd balcony and crawl out a bit. It was a hoot to watch the cops try to talk the guys down.
Sorry Al, meant to respond to Blackhawk 24 - 6628
I was up there in my younger days...The place was great and I am happy I was there a lot. There will never be another atmosphere like the Stadium for an indoor sporting event.
I don't miss walking through 2 or 3 inches of who knows what after the toilets overflowed after the first period.

And a quick note on Ladd. As much as I LOVE Buff, I think Ladd is the player we miss most. Wore the C in Carolina, C in the Peg, and without our great captain, could have worn the C in Chicago. Very solid all around player. Still love his knock down of Kesler in 2010 then a point to the cheek. No Kesler could stand that beating over the course of a 7 game series! |

Refresh my memory please AL .
In 1992 I was 11 . Was Larmer a Labor and Union guy ? Is that why the lack of respect for him ? HOF and jersey retirement ? - mrpaulish
Involved in the PA during some volatile times...Larmer is well liked but also outspoken.

My comment was directed more at the fact that Dino is in and Larmer is not. PPG a little higher for Larmer but Dino hung on longer in his career. I still think Larmer should qualify but I see your point. Mine simply is if Larmer's is not HOF material......Dino shouldn't be either.
I'll leave you with this....Marion Hossa is regarded these days as a lock for the HOF, maybe not the first year of eligibility but he will get in. His stats (not including this season):
1172 games....486/570=1056
And Larmer was almost as good if not equal to Hossa in his 200' foot game. Larmer's issue is only ONE cup and the union thing which kept him out for a long time while Dollar Bill was helping run the league. - ILGolfer
Agree with everything you said except with 3 Cups Hossa likely gets in on his first try.

With about 2 minutes left in the 3rd period the guys who were going to sweep up after the game would find the lowest ceiling in the staircase and piss on it. I had as much fun watching people dodge the drops on the way down as I did watching the game. |

I agree completely-- Larmer also has a SC with NYR-- He deserves to be in HOF - jb3333
I'm not one for retiring numbers, except in the most rare of circumstances. I have no issue with ceremonies honoring great players, including banners in the rafters...but taking numbers out of circulation always seemed silly to me. |

This is for Wiz and anyone else that would remember.
When I was a young kid Murray Balfour would come to my house for dinner.
Murray was solid muscle, never drank or smoke at least not cigarettes like many...Wouldn't even put pepper on his food and would drink a quart of milk with his dinner.
Ironically and sadly Murray died at 28 of lung cancer....
His mother was a very religious woman and at Christmas for many years she would send us a card and sign her name as well as Angel Murray. |

I believe it...The smell up there was like no other late in a game....Combo of stale beer, cigarette smoke, grilled hot dogs and urine.

I agree Al but the reason I'm not sure is because I've read some pieces that point out that Hoss' numbers are not quite as good as some guys who are not yet in themselves. Can't remember the particulars, I'll try to look them up tomorrow but one was on ESPN's website.
Also mentioned that as he gets older his per game numbers will diminish and that some may not vote for him because they look at it as hanging on just to inflate said numbers. I certainly don't agree, he's the most "complete" player of his generation but you know how some of those voters for the sports HOFs are. Hell, Ron Santo's numbers were worthy over a lot of other players/3B and look how long it took him to get in. And it really sucked that it was AFTER he passed. |

You are correct about the #'s actually Hossa hasn't had many years since he left Atlanta when he has been an offensive force but I think the Cups will make a difference.
Santo was the best third baseman in the NL after Eddie Mathews and until Mike Schmidt and he should have been in long before he died.
But Santo unlike Hossa wasn't a warm and fuzzy guy while playing. |

I remember one night in the old Stadium during Roenick's rookie season I was at the Blues game where he gets cross-checked in the mouth and hands the referee his teeth. My seats were by the visitors dressing room entrance. Harold Schneps got ejected and as he's walking by I yell his name. He looks at me and says what. I told him it's a good thing he can fight because he sure as hell can't skate. He starts climbing the railing until someone grabbed him. My buddy asked me what I would have done if he made it to me and I told him I'd have gotten my arse kicked. Liquid courage almost got the best of me that night. |

For sure Al, my Dad used to give him and Fergie Jenkins golf lessons. Fergie was a great guy whenever I saw him, Santo....not so much. And his broadcast career probably didn't help either but his numbers were his numbers......HOF for sure. |

I know Santo was sand paper rough while in uniform but I met him like 300 times at different American Diabetes Assn events , been Type 1 since birth and Santo was even more amazing than his #s. He never said no to signing anything, always paused for a picture , have a great polaroid with him.
Anyways it was a shame he didnt get in while alive . That sucks .

Yeah MrPaul, would have been such a great thing to have him be inducted while he was alive. As for his demeanor, I'm sure he mellowed with age and I was probably tough on him as a kid since I was a huge Cub fan and then 1969 happened.........ugh. |

(frank)ing right.
With Baseball America , .... plus you think this blog is bad , MiLB the Minor Leagues and Draft coverage for Baseball.is insane. There are very few secrets. When the Cubs grabbed Schwarber at 4 the losers on MLB Network were saying Schwarber should be slotted 20-30 in the draft..... ooops . He will be an average LF that hits 35 HRs |
