And now Gustafsson is in the doghouse, which leads me to wonder what the blueline will actually look like in mid April. - ArlingtonRob
I'm not entirely sure on this. They were the best they've been all year with Gus playing 4 and TVR #5. Q's no idiot, he knows who his best D are and how they best slot.
Purely my speculation, but my guess is Svedberg is being showcased for all the scouts who have been hanging out at the UC this week.
Something like another team saying, 'we saw he could play at Rockford, can you play him a couple of games so we can confirm in our minds how he looks against NHL competition?' The Scuderi gets waived the day after his Sved's 2nd game. Got a feeling Sved is one of the moving pieces in whatever deal happens. He'd look good in Carolina.
Maybe a forward and a vet D coming back? |

Getting Kruger back, replacing Shaw on 1 makes the bottom 6 (barring trades): Kruger, Desi, Shaw, Danault, TT, Ras.
Essentially the same as last year, except swap Ras for Sharp, Danault for Vermette. Good, not as good as last year. THAT'S how important it is to get Shaw back in the bottom 6. - John Jaeckel
I don't see Rasmussen sticking around, I would swap him out of Panik in the bottom 6 (likely on the 4th line). |

Their defense doesn't have to scare people. They leave that up to the top six forwards. Look any Pens fan would have taken a bag of broken sticks for Scuds so when GMJR was able to fill a need and rid themselves of an expensive 7th defenseman we were all thrilled. Also look at all of the preseason Hawks blogs and almost all of them (minus the rape ones) talked about what how great of addition Daley was. To be honest I am glad that Despres is gone because I really don't think he was worth almost 4 million a year for a bottom paring defenseman. I would love for them to get more but it is what it is at this point... - Mino42
For Hawks fans I guess Daley appeared to have the potential to fill a need in the off season but mainly it was a "something is better than nothing" attitude for most. Particularly after Oduya was lost.
Daley turned out to be an entitled yet very limited player. He can skate and that is about all. He looked physically able to do what Q wanted but just mentally wouldn't.
He fits better in Pitt. That probably says enough about the differences in styles. Eastern teams will still relish playing against that D group in the playoffs.
That said, give those 3 kids (M, D and P) a few years and the D may look pretty good. We have our own questions with young D too. However, both Gus and TVR are already better than Daley IMO. |

Q loves having extra faceoff options. Wouldn't be surprised if we see Ras at 4LW when Krugs is back. |

Sved is a decent defenseman,, but he's somebody I could easily part with if that moved helped bring back a solid rental.

I know, and you can never have too many centres. But I find Rasmussen's play has really dropped off lately. |

This is all interesting. I have to feel Svedberg, Pokka, Rasmussen, McNeill, Hartman, and Ross are all certainly on the table with Chicago's 2016 1st round pick. For the right return, Dano or TT might be on that list as well.

What Bowman and the CBA are talking about isn't a "daily accrual." It's the fact that a team has to calculate its overall cap hit every single day to ensure that it's compliant with the cap rules. That's actually what Bowman means when he says it's not a season cap. A "season cap" would keep track of how much money was spent over the course of the season. But that's not how the CBA works; it requires daily compliance with the cap rules.
If it were, in fact, a daily accrual cap, we'd be constantly seeing high-paid players who aren't subject to waivers being sent down and then recalled in paper transactions between games. Teravainen ($894,166 AAV), Danault ($863,333 AAV), and Van Riemsdyk ($925,000 AAV) all have higher cap hits than most guys in Rockford. This isn't happening.
Where we do see cap manipulation is when a player is about to go on LTIR. That's because the way LTIR cap relief rules work makes it advantageous for a team to get as close to the cap as possible before putting the player on LTIR.
For the record, the nutshell version of cap hits is this: The cap hit for a player who was with the organization at the start of the season is his AAV. The cap hit for a player who joins the organization midseason, through trade, FA signing, etc., is his AAV pro-rated in proportion to how many days are left in the season when he's acquired. So a player with a $3 million AAV acquired with 25% of the season left to go only counts $750,000 against the cap. - darklighter
Hi -- reading all the daily accrual etc. posts can be very confusing and more importantly, not plausible. Your counterexample above (first bolded) shows exactly why it is not a daily accrual.
The second bolded statement above that you gave unfortunately can't be correct. My example is taxes: the government can take 40% of your salary at the end of the year or 40% every day. In reality, they take 40% every two weeks. Any way you slice it, they take 40%. |

I still LMAO at someone throwing a thread tantrum over JJ and Mex posting "cliff hangers" on a site based on trade rumors and "buzz". Wouldn't a rumor without a "cliff hanger" essentially be a fact? It certainly wouldn't be a rumor. |

I really liked what I saw in Hinostroza last night.
That guy is quick and hustles up and down the ice.
He looks stronger this time around. I hope he stays up a bit so we can see more of him and what he can possibly bring. |

I think for Stan to give up Dano or TT he'd have to get a young, cost-friendly player in return. I don't see it happening but anything is possible.
Of the other guys you listed I'd like to see the club hold onto Hartman if possible. |

He made some decent plays last night but I agree he has regressed some the last few weeks. Last night was sort of an anomaly of a game. Hard to see it as a turning point. Good to see the 72 -88-15 line clicking again though. |

Hmmm.....
Dano + Svedberg + Bickell for Skinner and Hainsey with Carolina picking up 2 million of the final 2 years of Skinner salary.

Might be. Gets the Hawks a LW for a few years and cost control in the Bickel and Carolina eating 2 mil x 2 years, gets them a veteran D-man through this year and next while Gustaffson, Pokka etc. continue to develop.
Carolina gets the high upside Dano, good upside Svedberg, and Bickel to help get them to cap floor next year and(possibly) provide veteran cup winning experience.
The whole thing would hinge on how hot they would be for Dano. |

Carolina would have to retain the salary for 3 years after this season. Not a bad deal though. |

Would rather see Staal and CAR taking the salary back on him all at once.
Also would rather see TT go than Dano.
Please. No. Versteeg. |
