For Max P ?
Dano , TT , picks , Svedberg , Bickell to make the $ work ?
WOW - mrpaulish
Get'er done Stan!!! |

Yep me too. I love Dano, but Max P is incredible. Imagine what he'd do with far superior offensive players around him? - kwolf68
It would take more than just Dano for MP...and the other player that they would want, the Hawks can't afford to lose right now. |

I have not heard his name mentioned. I AM hearing lots of Montreal chatter right now re: the Hawks.
Patch fits the bill perfectly. Young, fast, skilled, left winger with size and at a reasonable cost certainty going forward.
If there is anything here, you can bet either TT and/or Schmaltz + is gone. |

The following is my own speculation, and doesn't come from anything that I heard...
Keeping Marko Dano in Rockford right now lends me to believe that the Hawks may very well deal him before the deadline to make a big trade possible. Dano has been the #1 player inquired about from opposing teams because he is in Rockford! GMs don't see this as being something to do with his game, they see it as the Hawks hoping that he can become a top 6 LW in the near future...and there are a lot of NHL teams that would like to see Dano playing RW with them right now.
By not promoting Dano when Hoss got injured, it ensured that his "play" wouldn't become an issue suddenly (presuming he had a couple of rough games this week). If the Hawks really wanted to improve their hockey team while Hossa was out, they would have brought Marko Dano up to play RW...instead they promoted a 160 lb. guy that's been "solid" in Rockford...something doesn't quite add up to me.
IMO, Dano should have been playing this entire season as a RW, with a long leash as he developed his positioning and 200' game. I am not a fan of what the Hawks have "done" to him this year, and I would be happy for Marko to go somewhere where he was valued and would play right away. - MexicoHawk

I'm not sure what tax rates have to do with calculating a player's cap hit per the CBA, but I assure you that what I said is correct. It's how the Hawks were able to fit Vermette in under the cap last season. - darklighter
Vermette's salary was $3.5M LESS than Patrick Kane's, so they didn't need a pro-rated rate to acquire AV.
A hypothetical (after your excellent example on sending ELC's down between games):
Say a team spends $66.4M and the cap is $71.4M. That's $5M in space, which is not enough by AAV to obtain Crosby and Malkin from the Penguins as their combined salary is about $20M.
If what you said is correct with the pro-rated rates, then that $5M in space is actually enough to rent both players for the last 1/4 of the season, as their cap hit will only be $5M, which is .25 * $20M.
In effect, if what you said is correct, then there is a daily accrual, as the team acquiring the Penguins pays salaries of up to 3/4 of $66.4M until the TDL. After the TDL, they then pay the last 1/4 of $66.4M + $5M for C&M = $71.4M.
Is this really correct? A cap website would show the AAV after acquiring C&M to be $86.4M, which is clearly way over the cap. If it is correct, then GMs haven't realized that every dollar they have in pro-rated cap space for the last quarter of the season is actually 4x the salary in AAV. A cap floor team with $16M in cap space could actually temporarily take on $64M in salaries for the last quarter of the season. Is this really correct? |

Marc gets a 5 year contract extension 3 months ago and is now at blow things up? Either pretty ballsy or Dreger is over exaggerating. - ryan74
Marc is NOT the "blow things up" kind of guy...Dreger gets paid as a result of generating attention to himself...so you can figure it out.
However, the MTL faithful are THE least patient fans in hockey, and right now they are making things tough on the Habs...so some things are possible, but there will never be a "blow up" while MB is in charge...I'll guarantee that. |

I'd think they'd take Dannault as part of that trade.

Him or Danault would be my guess. Bergy loves Danault. But IMO while you hate to lose Danault, he is not irreplaceable. Shaw, IMO, is if you want to win a Cup this year. |

Dunno if the Hawks would do TT + Danault for Patch, but I'm not sure it's a terrible hockey trade when you consider the positive domino effect on the Hawk lineup AND Kruger likely coming back.
TT + Pokka + a pick is to me a good deal for the Hawks.

If Mex says lower in the line up, its not Shaw since he is a first liner right now. Yea, maybe Danault. I like his games too, but I agree, he can be replaced. For Pac, hell ya. |

Gaborik out long term for the Kings. Sure the Kings will free up some cash and put him on LTIR. Stan better move quick! The deadline is going to be interesting!
http://www.latimes.com/sp...yoffs-20160215-story.html - resqmed99
Gaborik was the "hired" gun for the Kings that put them over the Hawks in 2014. You can GUARANTEE Lombardi is already working the phones hard, and will NOT hesitate to give up a key prospect to acquire a key player. |

Long time listener.......
With Gaborik going down do the Hawks become much more urgent beating LA to the punch?
If he is healthy for the playoffs and they are 6 mil over the cap again, they are a handful. - JHawkBlackhawk
One major difference. If Gaborik is out until the playoffs, unlike Kane last year his injury is a knee and not a shoulder. Kane, while out was able to skate and keep up his conditioning. Gaborik with a knee will NOT be able to.
Much harder to step on the ice after 8 weeks of being off and be effective. Look at any of the players with knee injuries and see how it has effected them post recovery. |

I'd overpay for Patch; even TT and Danault +. Then add a 3rd line center ala Vermette last year - as you previously mentioned today - and the forwards look pretty good. Maybe even give Dano a shot as 3rd line RW with the two top 6 LWs set for a few years. |

Shaw is a huge factor on this team right now. Probably best suited to 3RW or 4RW, but does so many things in so many roles and the toughest guy pound for pound on a not overly tough team.
That's why I like the idea of Ladd. He not only can chip in offensively and play on any of the first three lines, he's tough and physical and a warrior. |
