How about Markov, one of Flynn or Weise, prospect + 2nd RD pick to Tampa for Carle (w/ $1MM retained), Ohlund and Drouin? |

There is no need to blow it up for Montreal but when you go from the best start Montreal has seen in years to the worse stretch they have seen in years and all you lost was your starting goalie then a change has to be made.
This was an eye opening year for them and riding their franchise goalie will only wear him out in the long run (assuming his injury this season didn't already start that).
I think they should move or let walk all of their UFAs and then look to move their veteran players (Markov, Plekanec) at the trade deadline (assuming they do not improve and get further from the playoff picture). This will allow them to retool around their young leaders and get a 1st round pick and grade A prospect per veteran.
It would be a huge mistake to blow it up while you have the best goalie in his prime. Consider the year a loss and open up some cap space for what is apparently a much needed change. |

if they want to move players, they need a gm who has the ability to close a big trade. pleakanac has an ntc this year, but not next. maybe easier to move him in the offseason.
they'll have to take money back on both those guys imo. i doubt they open up much cap space. |

Not only would they be wasting the prime years of Price but Subban as well. It doesn't make any sense to blow it up now.

Read the worst article from the Sportster ( ) yesterday saying PAP would fetch the Leafs a first rounder and had similar (if not more) value to Eric Staal and Cam Atkinson... |

No where near good enough for Tampa to surrender Drouin. His attitude and suspension aside, he is still an elite potential prospect and the return would have to be insane.
If Markov was 32 and signed for 3-4 seasons I could see the attractiveness of this deal, dump a crappy contract in Carle, gain a ligitimate top 4 defender and some pieces for Drouin. Problem is with Markov's age they give up Drouin for likely one good year and the chance to resign him past his prime.
Only way I would do this if I was Tampa is if the prospect was a grade A top 6F / top 4D prospect and of the pick was a 1st. Risky if Montreal misses the playoffs but no way that pick ends up in the top 10 unless they win the lottery which is a 4% chance at best. |

so Pacioretty, the player, is loyal to the lame duck coach? that's why they don't move him? you realize that makes no sense at all right? - Fountain-San

Markov wouldn't. If they did then it likely would be an expiring deal that was or is about to be waived. Full cap freedom. That being said if they did have to take back a 2 year contract then their return will be better. Might be worth it.
Plekanec though you have a point. Assuming it is a full NTC then they may have to wait but that being said if I knew they wanted to move me and I would have no say next year I would push them to move me at the deadline to a team I want to go to. Full control. |

Ohlund is LTIR so his cap isnt a factor. So tampa ships out 5.38m in cap and take on around 7.75m in cap?

Staal maybe but that is ONLY because most teams buying CANNOT take on Staal's contract at all. Still though with 50% retention and taking a bad contract like the Leafs did with Jokinen it can be done and the return will only be better. PAP is not worth a first. Only chance that happens is if the deal was expanded like the Franson trade. |
