looking at the sabres schedule, I can see them playing .500 hockey from here on out
their schedule was brutal to start the year
78 points this year IMO does not get a top 6 pick
it does make the team 24 points better though and probably in position to contend for a seat next season for the dance |

I think it depends on what teams do at the deadline and injuries. Right now (Knock on wood) Our only injury to a starter is Ennis. So we've been pretty lucky in that regard. I don't see Toronto catching us at all but Edmonton could ride McDavid, Calgary still has a lot of talent even if they have no goaltending. Columbus is hit or miss. They were playing hot before tonight but looked awful against us. Winnipeg has a tough schedule but solid team. Vancouver could slip. A lot of things at stake. As long as we pick in top 5 or 6 I'll be satisfied and I think that's a pretty realistic possibility. Not rooting for us to tank at all just looking at the other teams around us. |

I can see the yotes, habs, and sens free fall in the months ahead
would not shock me if all canada teams, blue jackets and yotes comprise of the 9 worst records at the end of the season |

Last time it didn't was 06-07. Teams around us would have to go several games below .500 (they have games in hand as well).
The moves on deadline day could put gionta back in the top 6 and weber in the lineup. |

sabres are 11 points out of the playoff spot
lost 17 games by a goal, or in regulation/so
record in ot/so is 3-7, so lost 10 games in regulation by a goal
it's easy to find 12 points left on the table |

Doesn't guarantee you points, we are also a bottom feeder (though 9 or 10 wins certainly seems realistic). |

I still don't agree with the idea of moving a 1st rounder for goaltending but man is Lehner starting to grow on me - Sabresfan-365
If he didnt go down in the first game, I think the sabres would be right on the bubble for the playoffs. |

Could very well be. I'm not sure we've scored enough to be there though, but the low goal scoring could also be due to the "Lalime Effect" where the team tries so hard to not (frank) up in front of their backup that they end up allowing 4 goals while only scoring one or two of their own. |

good question, to answer that you need to ask yourself questions regarding each player
your buiding a roster to compete for the next 5/6 years
IMO kane, eichel, skunk and ror are the only legit top 6 players on this roster
ennis, girgens, moulson, mcginn, gionta are not
do you want to pay ennis, moulson, girgens, mcginn etc to be third line players? or build the prospect pool and be able to plug young energy players on cheap deals
do you pay foligno decent coin for being a 4th line player? Do you trust him to be a third line player?
IMO with larsson, deslaurers and schaller, you have 3 cheap options for your bottom 2 lines
on the d, I think we all agree risto is a #2, bogo is a 3/4
That leaves 2 holes in your top 4, do you pay gorges, wait for mccabe/pysyk to develop?
They are IMO where they need to get a few more upgrades on the roster.
right now we have 47 players under contract, can only have 50
I think once they get 4 more top guys, 2 up front and 2 on the blue line, the team will shake out and be stable - homiedclown
Who the F is "skunk?"
That's a stupid nickname
Is it really that hard to type "Reinhart?"
I know it's 3 extra letters, but come on
Ennis is still a young, 20 goal guy
In today's NHL, that's a "top6" guy
Agree for the most part with everything else u said
Although...
Your 3 best players don't need to be on your top line
Someone who's "top6" can play on your 3rd line
Look at Detroit's lineup for examples...
Abdelkader on 1st line, Helm on 2nd, Nyquist on 3rd
I think too many ppl get caught up in stuff like "Girgensons can't play on the top line with Eichel"
Well, why not?
If u look at the top lines throughout the league, it's almost NEVER that teams 3 best players...
Shaw, who was a 4th liner last year, now plays with Toews
Dupuis played with Crosby bc they fit well together, not bc he was "top line " talent
Examples go on & on & on
I don't really think it's fair any more to label guys as "top6" or whatever
It's about how u make your talent fit together with role players so that the line can gel & be productive in both ends
Sorry if I read to much into what u were saying,
But it's more of a general attitude on these boards I'm referring to |

Reinhart has been called skunk on these boards all season...
It's a joke amongst posters and Homie and BJM went back and forth about Reinhart. Homie thought he could get 50 points playing top 6 mins (he's really close to that pace). The other poster did not. Then it went back and forth and it was decided Reinhart stinks, and stinks like a skunk. So he is called skunk here.

So, now we have seen Lehner for 10sh games, and is playing above average with a .930+ save percentage. He has played say 7-8 good games, and 1 stinker.
What's everyone's opinion now.
My thought is, if he continues to play like this and plays the 60-65 games per season, I believe the 1st GMTM gave up will be worth it...certainly would be an impact player at a position of need who could steal a lot of games and therefore points in the standings.
Of course, the sample size is still very small, but the look is trending very positive.
Let's hope it continues! |

Another thought I have had for the past several days is, if the Sabres don't land in the top 4 or 5 draft positions; I think GMTM tries to trade up into the 2 slot and picks one of the Finns. I'm thinking it would be our 1st + Ennis...and a 3rd if need be?
So, let's assume after the Lottery results Sabres are picking 6th...do,you try to pull that trade off? |
