It'll only take 1 stinker from Lehner, and guys like Sbroads will be beady-eyed doucheing, first round pick wasting, ect, ect. I think that after the deadline, free agency, and draft, Murray will have us in great shape. It's not reasonable to think that he was going to flip the whole roster in one off season, and make us a contender immediately. - bobmack13
In all seriousness about Lehner I'm happy with what I've seen so far. He covers a lot of net, is competitive is hell, challenges the shooter (sucked bad on the shootout goals) and seems like a great team player
BUT... I realize every goalie has to be lucky to be good but in last nights game alone there had to have been 2-3 saves from either a defenseman or an object laying on the ice that stopped the puck. He still puts himself out of position a little too much for my liking.
I hate to sound like the Asshat but I do need to see him sustain this pace. Maybe even for the rest of the season. I think he can only get better. He's a big guy and I think his conditioning will improve. He'll get quicker. - Pairo11
good points, gil...however, I never realized how agile he could be...last night he was incredible...even with things going his way those few times

There's reason to think his agility will improve. As recently as last week we were hearing his ankle is still tender and gets sore by the end of each game.

I don't get why people are so quick to trade away Ennis....the dude hasn't been health the majority of the year and when he was he happened to have a bad stretch of games....
but when he's on his game...he can be a game changer...this is a guy who scored 46 points (the second most in his career) on LAST YEAR'S Sabres team.... - feetontheair22
Who is this Ennis person I keep hearing about? lol
Gotta think that his absence has opened up room for Skunk to be successful on the wing. If and when Ennis is back we will definitely have some more speed, which as Kane showed last night (and most nights) is pretty important.
Kane's play in the 3rd reminded me of the speedy Sabres...Holzinger, Max, Miro, etc. Man, we had speed back then.

yeah, tommy, that could be a lot of fun to watch...
btw, kane looked like he was still recovering from Sunday night up until that burst of speed in the third

Right. And that gets me back on the conditioning thing. With a head injury and then the high ankle sprain he really had no choice but to sit back and strap on a feed bag. Let's face it. Big people like to eat. He ate for a LONG time without being able to skate and work out. - Pairo11
I get frustrated when people give him crap for coming into camp overweight. Like he was just a lazy blob that didn't care enough to work out during the summer. It's not like it was his choice. He literally wasn't allowed to do ANYTHING but sit on the couch.

Where's Homie with a 'hookers and blow' reference ??
Lehner is endearing himself to me more each game. I love the skills and his insanity. I could be that fearless level of compete that could help him win in the postseason. He seems like he's mentally the anti-Miller.
We got awfully lucky around the net. So many loose pucks should have ended up in our net and didn't. We got in a lot of penalty trouble and really let Columbus get comfortable in our zone for extended periods. But hey that's ok. Sometimes being lucky happens and they deserve that for all the times they got screwed.
Another thought I have had for the past several days is, if the Sabres don't land in the top 4 or 5 draft positions; I think GMTM tries to trade up into the 2 slot and picks one of the Finns. I'm thinking it would be our 1st + Ennis...and a 3rd if need be?
So, let's assume after the Lottery results Sabres are picking 6th...do,you try to pull that trade off? - IonSabres
I think moving from 6 to 4 is gonna take more than ennis. If we had pick 4 and somebody offered pick 6 and ennis i would decline all day long.

You can't even do things like that with a concussion. Anything that could increase their heartrate above resting is a no no. - HonkFortheGoose
Moderate Exercise and Cognitive Rest May be the Best Combo for Treating a Concussion

Yeah I have a teammate who has one. The doctors told him not to even do school work since it strains the brain even more than athletics (a problem since he is an engineering student)

Yes. I like Ennis, it's not that I want to see him go, but we need a game changing sniper to go with our centers at this point. I really hate though that we would have to even consider this. There's about 23 games left to go and we're going to blow the draft position by winning meaningless games. Of course it's nice to see the team win, it's been a while, and it's nice to see Lehner playing well. But, losing gets us a top four pick and a player that's NHL ready now and we wouldn't have to lose more assets to move up.
This team and its fan base has been through a lot, but a little more losing won't kill anybody. Picking top four and adding to the future top 6 can free up Ennis plus other prospects/picks to be moved for a defensemen we also desperately need.
Lose out, pick a Finn or Matthews, then move Ennis, 2017 1st, + for a guy like Shattenkirk. We will have the team set for a playoff run next year and have years worth of time for prospects to develop in the AHL.

There are so many opinions on this. But in general, they don't allow athletes to do a whole ton in general. Even if he lifted small weights while sitting on the couch like you implied, it's still not the same as what his body is used to doing on a daily basis. He's still going to pack on weight because he's going from burning a ton of calories to a more normal amount.

They're going to miss the playoffs. The top 3 picks are all part of the lottery this year. I'm fine with them not losing because no matter what, we have a shot at a top 3 pick this year.
