Even though the odds of a late round draft pick making the dance are slim...somehow, i have to think that the masses would be able to rationalize this move much easier if it was:

Weird trade ...granlund was never one of my favorites as I generally didn't care if he was in the lineup ...but I trashed shink for having attitude problems and didn't think he would be a top 6 guy ever ...very confused now

If it was shink and 6th for Grandlund, I can guarantee that hockeybuzz site would be down right now.

Probably something similar to this. Shinks odd were against him doing anything at the NHL level, granlund hasn't scorched at the NHL level and likely won't. Meh for meh. Our team really hates anyone with flashy dynamic offense though.

kind of has that feel to it.... sadly I think we end up with an undersized bottom six guy and Calgary ends up with a AHL scoring champ who can't translate his talents to the NHL.

Yes. Need those picks to trade for help getting near the playoffs.

What i think JB has in mind was Shink was 3-4 on the LW depth chart hence traded.
Backlund thought not an ELC next year will get a show me contract or packaged up.
With Sutter hurt JB is trying to insulate JM n the the deal only hurts Utica IMO.
Shink was gonna make the NHL as a scoring winger not a 3/4th liner.
Was 't gonna happen here.

A Rebuild is a specific direction which is based around the principal of acquiring picks and developing patiently which toronto and Phoenix are doing perfectly.
See you guys know EXACTLY what to expect in the coming year. So it is easy to manage expectations. You guys know for a fact you get the following:
1) More draft picks in the next week
2) a really high draft pick in a few months.

People get angry at this move because it doesn't really make any sense.

This trade tells me JB is taking the BPA in the draft n D later n with more deals to come. I'm all for that.

Wouldn't be the worst trade. Just think, we could have a completely fresh start. All of Gillis's prospects would be gone and half of the Canucks fans would officially jump off the bandwagon. A new look roster with loyal fans and plenty of room for the next generation to join
