Now you're supposed to tell us how Granlund will be a bust and Shinkaruk will be the next Joe Mullen.
- Scooby_Doo

Nah granlund isn't a bust ...he will probably be a decent 3-4C we just have so many centers he couldnt get a consistent chance ....shink to me is a long shot to stick in cgy ...he either has to play top 6 or he's gone ...and our top 6 needs more size than it needs skill

I wonder how much Travis Green's opinion on Shinkaruk had to do with JB making this move now? If there was never really a chance that there would a spot in the top 6 for the Canucks, then it was better to get what you could for him.

The optics are not good, but most of that is from the average fan who seems to think Shinkaruk was going to be the next Pavel Bure. Most people in the know seem to think that this trade is a wash, or at least that Vancouver got a usable player out of it.

Wouldn't be the worst trade. Just think, we could have a completely fresh start. All of Gillis's prospects would be gone and half of the Canucks fans would officially jump off the bandwagon. A new look roster with loyal fans and plenty of room for the next generation to join

U hit the nail. Bandwagoners galore n the true fans stuck it out for years n decades even.

Benning said he consulted Green on this. Translation, Benning told Green he was trading Shinkaruk.

U make a very good point n i think TG said to JB Shink has maxed out n does not fit into JB's overall future plans n was moved for this reason.

The AHL is for grooming future NHLers n prospects n always was the plan.
Gaunce n Cassels have more upside n Shink was simply moved on as i'm sure he was offered up in many deals before n nothing happened. JB cut bait n saw no future for Shink.

Wow.

Van traded away one of their bona-fide legit elite superstars in the making.. i hope they didnt misjudge his worth like they did with Corrado

- Arctic_AARDVARK

I'm sure yesterday you would have been calling Shink a B prospects

So with all of the "youth movement" happening on the Canucks, and all the opportunities the Canucks are now giving young players, you really believe Benning would trade away someone he thought would be eventually be a star in this league?

Time will tell.

I don't doubt Benning doesn't think Shinkaruk will be a star, I doubt his judgement and ability to trade. He's lost every trade he's made.

I have to agree with this. Add that JB last year was trying to trade shink it goes to show what he thought of him.

Likely saw no future here given the roster and type of spots available.

We need to trust JB. Sven has been good. Sutter as well. Etem shows good promise and both of JBs picks JV n JM have shown excellent talent levels. Patience and trust the man.

What were u expecting from him?
Judge? He's soft n not gonna make it as a sniper in the top 6.
Who is he gonna beat out n Calgary?
Players make it or they don't its not theory.

Nope. That was me. Well, not a B prospect but I'm not convinced that we have an A+ prospect out of our current bunch. Obviously, Benning didn't think Shink was either.

I don't like the trade but I always want Benning to 'win' the trade so I'm going to be disappointed a lot.

Depends how Rasmus Andersson pans out. Can't really say whether he won or lost that trade for another 10 years.

I don't think he lost it, but he didn't win it either.

Rasmus andersson is probably one of the top 5 D-men in the CHL.
