I am over the incicial shock of Hunter's trade. I Think I was more shocked and surprised that, again, we are sold by ownership and Linden/Benning that this was the next guy....

And so it feels like the rug has been pulled out from under our feet.

The more I learn about Granlund, the more I realize that he fits our bill better than Hunter does but has less of an upside --- or at least potential upside. Granlund will play for the Canucks next year.... he has to... he must clear waivers.

But Hunter may or may not play. Maybe they think he is second coming of Theo Fluery but there are reasons that he was passed by when others were getting their call ups.

But this trade will not be known for 5 years who won.

But tonight I trust the Canuck Braintrust less for selling us goods they themselves didn't want.

- Beatle_john

Sorry to quote myself....

I guess I should not blame ownership/Benning/Linden. They came to the conclusion that Hunter was just too small for the big leagues.... what are they going to do... advertise that fact and reduce his value?

The more I think about this trade, the more I am liking it.

This trade was for the post-Hank era. And again, no one will know who one this trade for 5 years.

So we can all calm down.

This is a thought through reasoned post, thanks booner, man the hysteria here is mind boggling at times.

Yeah it's pretty sad that some allow them selves to lose their cool over a hockey trade.

No one thinks that on earth. No one has any reason to think that at all.

And you misspelled Fleury.

This is where i differ with a few fans on here. I don't place the same value on draft picks that other's seem to.
I see a draft pick as a gamble.

I'm actually on board with JBs pov and i'll take a proven NHL'er over a prospect.

Sometimes you'll get burned, but overall i think you come out on top.

- dbot

We had issues with giving Sven playing time because his two way game wasn't acceptable. Not really a "proven NHLer" when the club owning his rights refuses to play him until he gets his two-way game in check.

But yeah, many people's view differs from that I guess. Nothing wrong with that.

Yes in 2016, IP addresses are not ghosted at all. An 8 year old can do it in it 30 seconds.

But thats ok.

As long as you are here to talk hockey, you are always welcome.

...and the Sutter deal. I know he's been injured but he came as advertised by Benning. Then there was the people who raged about Kassian being dumpoed as a cancer but stfu when he immediately got in the accident and was sent to rehab...

People keep giving Benning scouting credit but consistently call him an idiot for his observations on players.

My first reaction is I don't like this trade... but I will give Benning the benifit of knowing more than us and see what this does to our line up moving forward. We have a log jam of wingers in the system right now... not just centers. Maybe we are moving a center or two at TDL.

If any of Bennings reasons are legitimate and Granlund works out for us... I still am surprised we didnt get a better return for Shink....

- boonerbuck

Personally I look at the players he has brought in and see little that I'm impressed in at the NHL level but see the players he has drafted and see a bunch that so far has performed better than I expected. I think there is a difference between scouting juniors and pro's.

Obviously time will tell as with all these trades but I struggle to see the point in moving one of our better performing assets for a guy who seems like a depth option at this point. I believe he looked for Defense, but if he couldn't find the deal he wanted why trade a goal scoring prospect for a guy who seems to be another utility player, something we have a lot of?

Cool well.. Fleury was mean as all hell and had insane speed. Shinkaruk is slow for an AHLer and has been in one fight where he got the sh*t kicked out of him by Dalton thrower.

Sven has done well working on his D n fitting in nicely.
Shink IMO was not n was moved.
Soft wingers who don't win puck battles r not worth much.
Guys like Burrows r what r hurting us now n Jannik shows us what is needed.
Playing without the puck n chasing the Ops is a recipe for failure.

There was one thing brought up by, I think it was Ferraro on Team 1040, and that was it seems like the Canucks no longer have a scouting staff or at least their opinion os not as heavy as those in Canuck Management who have previous experience in juniors with players. I think the list of players that Benning once coached is getting longer.

No idea who that is .... but I will agree with one thing.... Theo was a hero. I have nothing bad to say about him.
