Cool well.. Fleury was mean as all hell and had insane speed. Shinkaruk is slow for an AHLer and has been in one fight where he got the sh*t kicked out of him by Dalton thrower.

well the guys name is thrower

yeah.. it a new thing for us lol...

its really the only way to successfully rebuild.. retooling doesnt work if you dont have guys on really good contracts... gotta strip down and start over.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Retooling can work for a team like Columbus who has the solid pieces to get it done.

Unfortunately we still have 2 more years of the sedins making this team appear way better than they are before we can accept rebuild.

Plus we have a crappy Owner, If only Gaglardi was the one that screwed over Aquilini and he owned the team.

No idea who that is .... but I will agree with one thing.... Theo was a hero. I have nothing bad to say about him.
- Beatle_john

Flames drafted Fleury for the AHL n never projected him as an NHLer.
Well he proved everyone wrong n showed who n what he was.
Pound for pound one of the Flames best ever n also the NHL.

Columbus sucks. They signed a bunch of players to big money deals after career years and then didn't continue to get career year production. What a shock

They are literally the last model you want to follow.

Personally I look at the players he has brought in and see little that I'm impressed in at the NHL level but see the players he has drafted and see a bunch that so far has performed better than I expected. I think there is a difference between scouting juniors and pro's.

Obviously time will tell as with all these trades but I struggle to see the point in moving one of our better performing assets for a guy who seems like a depth option at this point. I believe he looked for Defense, but if he couldn't find the deal he wanted why trade a goal scoring prospect for a guy who seems to be another utility player, something we have a lot of?

- belcherbd

Sounds like Benning let the word out over the summer that HS wasn't long for the Canucks. Likely wasn't getting much in offers when you sit on an asset you've acknowledged you don't want for months and months.

So I guess another bottom roster utility player is the best he could do. Which is embarrassing.

At this point I wouldn't be shocked or surprised to see Benning trade our 1st round pick away. Our first for Kadri is totally the type of deal this moron would make. You'd all follow along with explanation of getting a NHL proven player with upside, or some other bs story.

"We're a playoff team. Our goal is to make the playoffs. These are moves we're making to be the best playoff team we can be"

But I guess management wasn't planning on this team being a playoff team.

You don't have to support the trade, but I'm just tired of the complaining, the patience of Canuck fans is that of a 3 year old child and then on top of that you listen to 1040 all day, the amount of negativity is unbelievable. I'm ashamed to be associated with some of you, and that's not a joke.

It doesn't make sense though. He wasn't a regular player or a prominent one for Calgary. Shinkaruk, whether he is a "JB guy" or not, is one of the leader scorers in the AHL at age 21. There is a lot of value there, but time and time again I just can't bring myself to believe that Benning has any aptitude as a salesman or market evaluator.

Nick Spaling just got a 2nd round pick and I'm not confident that JB gets more than that for good players like Hamhuis or Vrbata.

Just keep ignoring the talent ahead of Granlund up the middle because it makes you look so smart.

Valued asset for a middle of the roster utility player? Sounds perfect.

#FireBenning #FireLinden #FireWeisbrod

I was beside myself when I heard about this trade. Shinkaruk to Calgary for Granlund? Like pissed off! Shinkaruk is having an amazing sophomore season with the Comets.

What is worse than this trade, is Benning's rationale!
1) "Granlund has more NHL experience" - That is true, but 86 games over 3 seasons is nothing to be proud of.
2) "Shinkaruk's goals are too flashy" - Um. What? You mean he can score great goals with flair.
3) "Granlund is more mature" - He's 22 & Shinkaruk is 21
4) "Granlund plays centre, but can play LW also" - Shinkaruk plays LW
5) "We have a logjam at LW" - Now we have a logjam at C.
6) "We really like LW Gaunce & hope he makes the jump to the NHL" - if he doesn't, that would have been Shinkaruk's opportunity

Need I say more?

Benning is making it really hard to be a Canucks' fan right now. I'm still not 100% confident in Baertschi & Sutter is a waste of money and air.

The Canucks need to move out a number of contracts, but a promising young player (and 1st round pick) isn't one of them. Trade Higgins, Burrows, Sbisa, Hamhuis, Bartkowski, Sutter, Vey, Miller, etc. Don't trade away young players with tremendous upside, especially before they either prove themselves at the NHL level or falter.

I still don't believe that Markstrom is the future of the franchise, and I'm holding on to the hope of Thatcher Demko. That being said, we need to bring in another young goalie to fill the void. Bachmann & Miller are not worth the paper they are written on.

I know a bunch of Canucks' fans have called for Jannik Hansen to be traded, but I think that you should reconsider. At $2.5 million for two more seasons, his contract is low enough to be worth the points he puts up. He is an agile player who can play on any line, on the PP & PK, and can hit as well as score. I have followed Hansen's career since his time in Denmark & Sweden, through to the WHL when he was drafted... wait for it
.. 287th overall (9th round) of the 2004 draft by the Canucks. Considering that only 20 of the 30 1st round picks are still playing in the NHL, Hansen is a successful veteran player. At 29 years old, Hansen is in his prime. While he's not a super offensive threat, he has scored 216 points in 525 NHL games (plus 18 points in 64 playoff games). I'm not confident Benning/Linden could get a better player in return, and draft picks may or may not become NHL calibre players.

Just my 2 cents...

He's so talented and versatile he was a healthy scratch 6 of the last 10 games while Deryk Engelland suited up as a LW when Calgary thought it was better to roll with 7 D

oh my gosh you guys are really retarded
After a few years after the draft, you think draft position #24 automatically makes your guy more valuable than a #45?
I guess you wouldn't trade Shinkaruk for Johnny Gaudreau cause he was drafted in the 104th overall

Granlund is a year older and has played 86 NHL games and Hunter has played ONE
From what I've seen, we don't even know if this guy can translate his game into the NHL
Granlund's AHL numbers are also better....tell me exactly why everyone's so high on Shinkaruk? Because he was a flashier goal scorer in junior?

BAHAHAHAHAHA
