The quote from JB that kind of frustrated me the most was saying Granlund can move up and down the lineup... I want guys that belong in the top 6 to play in the top 6, and guys that belong in the bottom 6 to play in the bottom 6

we traded for Etem, who has looked good as of late, but I still wonder if Gaunce or another prospect in the system could fit in just as well?

- hillbillydeluxe

I'll be surprised if Etem makes the team next fall to be honest. It was a no risk move giving him a shot. Jensen couldnt stay in a AHL line up... they gave up on him in the truest sense of the term. Don't blame them...

Honestly, no need for that. No one knows how this trade will go down until 2021.

Call us wieners then if you must.... and you have 5 years to learn how to spell it.

Darren Dreger on Toronto's TSN Radio this afternoon.

Asked about the trade
"I don't think think this trade is as one sided as some are saying in the media. With that being said I don't understand it from Vancouver's point of view. Jim Benning since he took over as GM has always stressed the importance of younger players playing their natural position while developing, and now with this trade they get another centerman who looks like he'll have to be moved to the wing because of the log jam of centers within their organization"

blah blah blah

"As we have seen this year Vancouver has put different players on Waivers, and some of those moves with were questionable at the time like when Fran Corrado was lost to waivers. With this trade they lose a Player in Shinkaruk who is in the first year of his 3 year entry level deal and could be sent back and forth from their farm team in Utica for, Marcus Grandlund who is an RFA and will require waivers going forward"

then he gets asked about the suppose critiques from the media and fans over this trade.

"I think this trade is being criticized so much because no one is really aware of what Vancouver's long term and short terms goals seem to be. Short term to me this move tells me Jim Benning thinks they are a playoff team. So my opinion of the Vancouver Canucks at the deadline has changed a lot after today. They may still think of themselves as being buyers. Long term I am still hazy on what their plan is going forward"

...........blah blah blah off-topic.

"What I am saying is with Vancouver is they trade for a 27 year old Brandon Sutter and sign him long term, and Benning labelled him a core piece moving forward. This move along with other signings show a tug-of-war happening within the organization between rebuilding and making the playoffs, and we have seen time and time again this never works out"

- classic321

Dreger is talking like the trade deadline just passed and this is the only trade we made. Who knows what the line up is going to look like after... for all we know everyone will be playing their natural position. I don't get all the post trade deadline type stuff being written about this trade....

#FireBenning #FireLinden #FireWeisbrod

I was beside myself when I heard about this trade. Shinkaruk to Calgary for Granlund? Like pissed off! Shinkaruk is having an amazing sophomore season with the Comets.

What is worse than this trade, is Benning's rationale!
1) "Granlund has more NHL experience" - That is true, but 86 games over 3 seasons is nothing to be proud of.
2) "Shinkaruk's goals are too flashy" - Um. What? You mean he can score great goals with flair.
3) "Granlund is more mature" - He's 22 & Shinkaruk is 21
4) "Granlund plays centre, but can play LW also" - Shinkaruk plays LW
5) "We have a logjam at LW" - Now we have a logjam at C.
6) "We really like LW Gaunce & hope he makes the jump to the NHL" - if he doesn't, that would have been Shinkaruk's opportunity

Need I say more?

Benning is making it really hard to be a Canucks' fan right now. I'm still not 100% confident in Baertschi & Sutter is a waste of money and air.

The Canucks need to move out a number of contracts, but a promising young player (and 1st round pick) isn't one of them. Trade Higgins, Burrows, Sbisa, Hamhuis, Bartkowski, Sutter, Vey, Miller, etc. Don't trade away young players with tremendous upside, especially before they either prove themselves at the NHL level or falter.

I still don't believe that Markstrom is the future of the franchise, and I'm holding on to the hope of Thatcher Demko. That being said, we need to bring in another young goalie to fill the void. Bachmann & Miller are not worth the paper they are written on.

I know a bunch of Canucks' fans have called for Jannik Hansen to be traded, but I think that you should reconsider. At $2.5 million for two more seasons, his contract is low enough to be worth the points he puts up. He is an agile player who can play on any line, on the PP & PK, and can hit as well as score. I have followed Hansen's career since his time in Denmark & Sweden, through to the WHL when he was drafted... wait for it
.. 287th overall (9th round) of the 2004 draft by the Canucks. Considering that only 20 of the 30 1st round picks are still playing in the NHL, Hansen is a successful veteran player. At 29 years old, Hansen is in his prime. While he's not a super offensive threat, he has scored 216 points in 525 NHL games (plus 18 points in 64 playoff games). I'm not confident Benning/Linden could get a better player in return, and draft picks may or may not become NHL calibre players.

Just my 2 cents...

- monsmaark

You're right ....we should keep him a couple more seasons until his skill and game recess ....then try and trade him for that coveted 7th round pick, fail and end up waiving him down to Utica. You know....like Higgins Prust and weber ! Great call dude

Heres an idea. Lets not call up our best offensive prospect from utica on this terrible team that needs offensive help. Lets trade him to our rival for a Door Stopper.

all of your posts towards me are very confrontational..

im not causing any ruckus.. im pretty sure this is the third time ive told you this..

- Arctic_AARDVARK

so what was with your last comment then? Non hockey related.... its meant to stir poop up.
If you are poking sticks at me, which is the same you did last time you are going to get response like that. You better realize you angered so many people last time... what did you expect me to do when I see you? Should I give you a hug?

Im not the only one that told you to bugger off. You left quite an angry group with you and I still remember your comments. What did you expect with your behavior?
Yet you have apologized to no one here either.....you just come at me with your EXACT SAME comments as last time you were here and expect me to be cool with that.

I didn't like the trade when I first heard it...seemed an odd move, trading a highly ranked but under-sized prospect, coming off an injury and having a successful AHL sophomore season, for a bottom 6 C/LW under-sized forward with lower offensive ceiling.

But...think I like it a little more now
- Granlund was as successful in the AHL as Shink, so far
- he has shown more (though not lots!) at the NHL level
- Shink was unlikely to have a role on the team next year, unless there is a real clean-out (in which case Granlund fits as well as Shink)
- Shink gets a fresh start, with his home-town heroes

it's a minor trade where both teams hope for a win-win, and (please!!!) maybe an indication that JB is going to create some holes in the lineup through trades in the next week.

Based on your reaction to one minor trade, I'm not sure you guys are going to survive a rebuild.
- Canada Cup

A truer statement has nver been made... I can handle the losing, the complaining, the arguing, absence from post season and all the growing pains. The (frank)ing hysteria and hyper exaggerating of every little move the GM makes drives me further from the remaining fan base though. If only JB could swing a deal for some new fans

Lineup? don't be surprised if Benning trades him to make room for Granlund.
