It doesn't make sense though. He wasn't a regular player or a prominent one for Calgary. Shinkaruk, whether he is a "JB guy" or not, is one of the leader scorers in the AHL at age 21. There is a lot of value there, but time and time again I just can't bring myself to believe that Benning has any aptitude as a salesman or market evaluator.

Nick Spaling just got a 2nd round pick and I'm not confident that JB gets more than that for good players like Hamhuis or Vrbata.

He's going to extend them with NMC and overpay, I guaruntee you, because he thinks they are enough to make the playoffs (I find it funny that JB and co arent curious as to what happens if they actually make the playoffs, another sweep/ 6 game first round which is just as pitiful). There better be another trade in him and I completely agree with you, I think the league knows this guy is a sucker and never even offers anything of value.

Have you scouted the 2 individuals, have you requested your scouts to submit a detailed report expounding their attributes and deficiencies. Have you had indepth conversations with the head coach regarding whether an individual has what's required to be an all round NHL contributing player.

I'm worried that this move indicates Benning hasn't given up on the playoffs this season, but that's inconceivable. If Vrbata and Hamhuis are still here after the TDL I think we can break 100 pages in here.

I grew up and went to high school in Med hat, watched Shinkaruk's entire junior career and the Hat Arena, so yeah I know the player pretty well.... and I can safely say he is not some Linden Vey-lite like Granlund is (chrisst we didnt even get the good one!). Dynamic skater, great shot, amazing attitude, leadership up the butt.... for a guy that couldnt crack the flames roster

I am over the incicial shock of Hunter's trade. I Think I was more shocked and surprised that, again, we are sold by ownership and Linden/Benning that this was the next guy....

And so it feels like the rug has been pulled out from under our feet.

The more I learn about Granlund, the more I realize that he fits our bill better than Hunter does but has less of an upside --- or at least potential upside. Granlund will play for the Canucks next year.... he has to... he must clear waivers.

But Hunter may or may not play. Maybe they think he is second coming of Theo Fluery but there are reasons that he was passed by when others were getting their call ups.

But this trade will not be known for 5 years who won.

But tonight I trust the Canuck Braintrust less for selling us goods they themselves didn't want.
