3. you are trying to ascertain a "winner" based on an individual transaction. We do it with all trades (see jones v. johansen).

In that light, let's propose the trade in another manner: Shink+ 2nd for Baertschi and Granlund. How you can get so god damn polarized over that is beyond me.

4. The only way I hate this trade is if Shink gets flipped for Drouin. Less if Calgary also gives up their 1st in this draft to get him. However, if Hammer, Shink, '17 CBJ 2nd gets Drouin, then we missed out.

5. If you could trade both of our first two draft picks this year for Drouin, would you? Jim Benning would. I finally understand what he's doing... Drouin was a top 3 pick. If Tbay would take the 5th overall this year, JB makes this deal because Drouin is farther along in development. That's what he did with Baertschi and Vey. Unless there is a guy that JB is sold on like everyone else is sold on Mathews, there's a decent chance he'll flip it for a younger player like Provorov or Honka, even if it's top 5. My sense is that its going to be in the 7-11 range because many others have perfected the art of tanking. But he's expediting the rebuild by a couple years by getting guys who can play now.

Aren't you somewhat concerned that every trade Benning has made has some controversy to it? He hasn't made one (frank)ing deal where it makes sense. He's trading away picks for guys when he's the one who should be trading away guys for picks.

If he makes this trade Shinkaruk for a 2nd, I'd be more on board than some utility plug.
