They could also be in a spot where they just pick Chychrun & call it a day
U already have Nurse, & Klef...
That's a nice group, even if young
Add a couple solid Vets with Sekera & your defense looks a heck of a lot better
Although, I think goalie could still be an issue for u guys - jdfitz77 Thing is, when is chycrun gonna be making a positive impact?
Nurse was thrown to the wolves and over the last 2 months it's been hurting him. He's struggling. I wouldn't wanna assume chycrun is gonna do anything positive for us next year
I want no part of the pick. I want it dealt for immediate help. And if it's in the top few, I gotta think it's gonna have some serious value
But again, it's all guesswork. No idea what's potentially out there for that pick
Talbots been fine. I blame nothing on goaltending this year really. Bees been poor from time to time. But also been stellar. First time I can say that in a long time |

Offer up a realistic deal to make the oilers better for hall and I'm sure they'd consider it
Why would they accept anything less than an oel or hedman type for him?
And I'm sure these frameworks around 1 for 1 is exactly what they're looking at. (Small add in here or there are fine)
Nuge for shattenkirk
Ebs hamonic - HB77
You're on the right track but both Hedman and OEL are twice the players Hall is. Shattenkirk is more the ticket there. Hall's injury history and point production don't warrant the kind of value your implying. He's a talented player but not elite. |

Point production ?
over .9 ppg in his career which puts him in a very elite group.
Like top ten in scoring twice by the age of 22? Both years over a ppg.
12th as of today again this year.
I think franchise defenders might be worth more and that's not unfair.
But you said 1 for 1 trades. And the oilers will do those to get better. Not worse.
Shattenkirk is not only not worth hall on ice, but he's a free agent in a year whereas hall is signed for 4 more years at a home run contract. I sorta figured that you meant trade our players for inferior ones. This doesnt make us better.
Nuge for shattenkirk? Ebs? Let's talk
Pietrangelo for hall? Maybe. But even he isn't in halls class this year |

Like I said though...
Add a couple more solid vets to Sekera & u won't have to expect to much too soon from the young guys
Let's face it...
Even if u traded Hall for OEL like u suggested,
You're still not on the level of a Chicago, LA, Anaheim or StLouis yet
You're still gonna be a few years out
So letting Nurse & Chychrun develop at a natural pace would still work
U could push for the playoffs next year,
Then when your young & talented defenseman are starting to come into their own...
That's when you'll really have something
Although it's tough to be patient (trust me, I get it)...
but it's gonna be almost impossible for u guys to compete right away with how strong the West is

Oh for sure we're not on that level with one addition. Maybe not even 2. This core hasn't learned to win together yet. That's huge. But it's not so much impatience as it is make tangible steps ASAP or you may as well dismantle that old core and lose trades while focusing solely on Connor, Leon, nurse, klefbom going forward.
And you certainly make some reasonable points. For me, I'd like to go heavy trade route.
Get two impact defenders through nuge and our first
But that might not even be an option.
We might have to try and get one guy , draft and hope on the free agent market as you've said. In fact, it's fairly plausible. I'm just apprehensive about free agency as Edm isn't exactly a hotbed destination. |

So, why did the media say Buffalo was tanking last year? Here you go:
“I watch him too much and I think too much about him,” Murray told the New York Times. “I wish I could help myself.”
It’s no secret the Sabres’ general manager covets the NHL’s next great prospect. Murray regularly makes the 90-minute drive from Buffalo to Erie, Pa., to watch McDavid play. Murray attended the Otters’ playoff opener Thursday rather than watch the Sabres lose to Arizona in the opening showdown of No. 30 versus No. 29.
“You go through a year like this, it’s tough,” Murray told the Times in a story published Sunday. “I feel bad for our players, I really do. It’s been a tough year. I’m the type of GM, as everybody can see, I’ve traded away a lot of good players for the simple fact we have to get better. Our time’s the future. This guy I call our franchise-changing player.”
Blame your GM. He didn't take the time to talk about his future plan for the team or what the long term vision was... he wanted to tank for McDavid... period!

Hate to break it to you, but franchise changing players are the ones at the top of each draft. That's generally where you find them. The long term vision was to trade guys with contracts that were ending for assets. They wanted quantity so they could package it together to get quality. The ROR trade is the perfect example of that. It was said by LaFontaine and Ted Black prior to Murray even being brought on board. All he did was continue on with the blueprint that was put down in front of him.
Every GM and fan in the league was obsessed with McDavid last year. And anyone that says any different is just kidding themselves. The kid is a ton of fun to watch. If you don't like to watch players like that, then you probably shouldn't be a hockey fan.

Not that I disagree with us tanking, but I don't think too many other GM's outside of Buffalo, EDM, AZ etc had too many thoughts about McDavid.
