It is likely to be a really late 3rd, so we should not be that excited, but I still like the deal.
We also ate half his salary, so there is that (limit of 2 a year, right?). - Lilroot9
He is an UFA, so I think that it is only the remainder of this year.
edit: unless you meant a team can only retain a portion of two player's salary a year. |

McGinn has to draw a 1st rounder this year no doubt then - Sabre_Tooth
Yes, that's what this trades means |
|
|
|
2nd and a prospect for McGinn. I will be surprised if they get a first. |

Right but you can only do 2 "new" ones a year, I think. So doing it again (Moulson please! lol) would be the only other.
But I don't know of many players on our trade list that would be for, maybe only Ennis, but that is really far fetched. |

Also, probably only got a third because of the salary retention. Otherwise I bet it would be a fourth. |

Couldn't be happier for weber. He was the face of the tank at times and deserves to play on the best team |

Yeah, will probably be mid to late 80's, but how many people said they'd be happy with a 6th? A lot more than said 2nd or 3rd, but it could just be the people with the biggest gripe that are the loudest. And most people were like me and a few others that knew his value was higher. I think it's a steal from Washington. Defensive depth is huge in the playoffs. And make no mistake, that's exactly why they traded for him. I asked the question a few months ago if you would give up a 2nd round pick for a Stanley Cup? Which if we had even one more healthy defenseman and didn't have to play Paetsch, Janik, or Fitzpatrick we more than likely would've beaten Edmonton for that Cup especially given how easily Carolina won. |

I agree, from all accounts a class player and a better player than many here realize. I hope he returns as a 7th D for us next year. |

Not sure about this, would think TM would want younger prospects (like LA trade a couple years ago), but not sure you get anything "great" that way. Can't steal a player away much anymore. |

if Gaustad and a fourth got a late first, nothing would surprise me at this point. Plus we now have like, 4 3rds right? or am I thinkings 2nds? regardless, we have plenty of picks to throw in with McGinn to a playoff team who wants to win now. He's close to being a 20 goal scorer this year. Don't sell him short to a team that's going for it.

Hello Tom - Der Kaiser
Kaiser, fyi...me and the wife are on the wagon, prolly for good. Been a week. The motivation is mainly financial, but there was an episode involving something important getting flushed down the toilet, and me having to remove said toilet to get said item back....sobriety is nice but I feel kinda squirrelly.
My keyboard may have some irrational things to say for a while. Hopefully its entertaining for you guys.
